It is interesting. I read that Germany have given up their own app development in favour of using the Apple/Google offering.

The NHS have an app and they are testing it. Seems Australia, S.Korea, Singapore and others have done the same. From what I have read it looks like the reason for not using a centralised approach is around privacy concerns and what the app could be used for after covid19 is over, Big Brother!

CostaCouple posted:
"Covid is not causing any more deaths than the worst flu cases"
W.H.O. states:
Mortality for COVID-19 appears higher than for influenza, especially seasonal influenza. While the true mortality of COVID-19 will take some time to fully understand, the data we have so far indicate that the crude mortality ratio (the number of reported deaths divided by the reported cases) is between 3-4%, the infection mortality rate (the number of reported deaths divided by the number of infections) will be lower. For seasonal influenza, mortality is usually well below 0.1%. However, mortality is to a large extent determined by access to and quality of health care.

"Covid is not causing any more deaths than the worst flu cases we have had in recent years......"
No wonder you're concerned, Stormy1, the statement above is incorrect.
As I've already said, the ONS released this morning its latest Covid-19 figures up to 17 April, with the statement that the statistics show deaths from Covid-19 are higher than any other pandemic virus (including seasonal 'flu and the common cold), since their records began in 1996:

It may be accurate but it is only half the story as the number of deaths caused by Covid19 could be multiplied several times if it were not for the Lockdown.

I didn't see you undertaking the Covid-19 course run by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, which I undertook in March this year. Are you registered for the follow-up course at the end of May?
Not only do I read - extensively - I provide links to source material. I gave you a link to the source data for the UK and Villas gave you a link to the source data for the global position. So, where are the links to the sources you're using to to support your statement, "Covid is not causing any more deaths than the worst flu cases we have had in recent years...."??
Hi (without comparing countries differing lockdowns), I only answered to your 1st point: quote "Quite, so the end death rates for the most serious influenza years are roughly the same as the covid virus deaths,....."
Whereas the W.H.O. state: "(the number of reported deaths divided by the reported cases) is between 3-4%,"
"For seasonal influenza, mortality is usually well below 0.1%.".
I am only reporting what they say.
As regards as in my experience since 14 March, I personally know, ie: people reported to me as having contracted covid-19. One couple, the lady returned home 9 days ago. Her husband died.
Other´s reported to me (I can not verify), but many, believe, they have contracted it, or suspected it & recovered without testing. This indicates to me that the covid-19, albeit hearsay, was among this population.
These from my vicinity, well prior to Jan/Feb. whilst we were still normally "mingling" & including many from here, travelling back to their home countries. Obviously (as I say is hearsay, & opinion) & therefore not included in any numbers we are discussing.
Hope helps.

I'm providing links to bona fide source material, as is Villas, so that you can read it for yourself. So, I'll ask again, where are the links to the sources you're using to support your claim that, "Covid is not causing any more deaths than the worst flu
cases we have had in recent years...."?

CostaCouple, the Worldometer data has already been discredited by virtue of the UK government admitting that it only reflects Covid-19 deaths recorded in hospitals. It does not include the higher figures reported by the ONS, which include Covid-19 deaths in other locations, i.e. care homes, private residences and hospices.
Third time lucky: where are the links to the sources you're using to support your claim that, "Covid is not causing any more deaths than the worst flu cases we have had in recent years...."?
