Hi, can someone please confirm whether all masks are acceptable or do they need to be clinical masks as opposed to home made?  Thank you in advance.

Hi Helski,

The only mask that Spain says must NOT be worn are those with an exhalation valve, as they offer no protection against the transmission of the virus.  The World Health Organisation also says that these should not be used.

Medical grade masks, types FFP1 and FFP2, give the most effective protection, and are cheap in Spain.

If you have a home-made mask, it should comprise at least 2 layers, preferably 3, where the layer next to the skin is cotton or silk, and the 2nd and 3rd layers made of tightly woven fabric,  such as polyester.  It should also fit closely to the face without gaps.

Kind regards,

Kim

If for some reason you had to visit a hospital you would have to wear a clinical mask but this would be given to you before entering.
