Hi Everyone

I checked with our travel insurance, Direct Line, before we came over a few weeks ago. They confirmed we were covered for everything, including Covid. The only thing not covered was travel disruption.

I must say I was surprised as I expected them to say we weren't covered as travelling against FCO advice.

I think everyone needs to check with their own insurance to be certain, also making a note of the date and time they phone!

I did the same with our car insurance and they also confirmed we were covered.

As I suggested earlier insurance companies will say you are insured and you may well be in an emergency setting. The problem comes when yo move into the hospital settings where they will probably not cover the expense of ward or ITU settings. These are not emergency rooms!

I agree.  I too was very surprised that my insurers were also covering everything, including Covid , but not travel disruption.  I think insurers are adapting their cover quite frequently so always best to discuss with them on the phone. Don’t assume their websites are up to date.

If you take out Staysure, you can add an Against FCO Advice Extension to your Policy. My policy I normally use did not cover for travel against FCO, but I paid for a new Policy with Staysure ( with the FCO extension) and it does.

If anyone  buys a policy and uses the link above or my name as a recommendation they can get 20% off - Susan Dowds

Couple of recommendations for "Staysure" on here so thought I would take a look where I find the following:-

Spain (including Canary Islands):

From 27 July, the FCO has advised against all but essential travel to all of Spain, including the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands.

If you choose to travel to Spain while it’s unsafe, your travel insurance will be made invalid and you won’t be covered.

When returning to the UK from anywhere in Spain, including the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands, you will need to self-isolate for 14 days.

This is not correct. If you take a Staysure Policy with an Extension to cover against FCO advice, then your Insurance with them will be valid.

Yes, two pages further down their chain of links I did find the following, I wouldn't have known from the page I quoted though without your insistence.

Can I get travel insurance against FCO advice?

If the FCO advises against all but essential travel to your destination in Europe because of COVID-19, adding the European FCO Travel Advice Extension to your policy means you can still go on holiday with cover.

You can be covered by your policy limits apart from COVID-19 related claims, or the reason for FCO advice against all but essential travel while you’re away, when travelling to Europe (as well as Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey and Egypt) for up to 104 days.

So, if your holiday to places like Spain or France can still go ahead and you feel safe enough to go, then adding the European FCO Travel Advice Extension to your policy means you can still be covered. Extra peace of mind starts from just £5 per policy, but may vary depending on your cover needs.

If an unexpected event occurs while you’re on holiday, and the FCO advises travellers to return home, we will also pay you up to £1,000 for additional accommodation and travel expenses where needed.

Before you go it’s important to check you have met the entry requirements of the destination you’re going to, as well as local government guidelines.

Why Choose Staysure? Here is the page I first found and quoted from :- https://www.staysure.co.uk/2020/08/fco-travel-restrictions-lifted/
