For a long time a lot of level headed people have tried to combat covid deniers with facts - we are now seeing a rise of people at the other end of the spectrum who strongly make points because in their heads covid will never end. And I think we have to call this out as well with facts...

The majority of medical professionals (in the west) no longer think masks are required if fully vaccinated, The CDC has updated guidelines and this has been accepted by President Biden - if vaccinated in the USA you no longer have to wear masks outdoors and indoors. Fact...

...

The UK is not in dire straights. The UK is the world leader in Genomics so most samples from across the world are sent to the UK to establish what variant or if it is a new one - given this the UK will always identify more cases of variants than any other country, but don't think for a second that other countries wouldn't find the same if they decided to send more samples to the British labs for analysis, or created their own sequencing capabilities. Fact

Germany and France putting UK on red lists. I support the EU so not anti EU however it is clear that those countries are being political. They have screwed up domestic vaccinations compared to the UK and are urgently trying to deflect their populations anger. A few weeks ago they tried to blame the USA and UK for hording vaccines but after Biden told them to shut up they have had to try again in a different way. Fact

In the UK there is no requirement to wear a mask outdoors as even the WHO say there is little benefit in doing so, that is why you see so few wearing them on TV reports. It remains the case that you have to wear masks in enclosed spaces as this is the highest risk factor for transmitting however this will end soon as it has in America. Fact

The UK has the highest rates and uptake of vaccinations of any western country and this has translated into low patient hospitalisations and ICU bed requirements. This is the key marker now as the whole point of vaccinations is not to eradicate covid but to allow us to live with it with little overall risk like a number of other viruses. Fact

Torrevieja has been lucky due to great climate conditions, ie a strong breeze that is perfect for clearing any virus particles that are circulating in the air. There is also starting to be a speed up of the most vulnerable getting vaccinated which will help even more. Fact

So the news is actually very good and really positive and everyone should consider facts rather than personal views however sincerely held they may be held. I will get on with my life to the fullest extent as allowed by local restrictions, socialise and see my friends and enjoy myself, others are free to peak from behind their curtain at others returning to normality if that is what they wish to do. But I would question if they will have any quality of life moving forwards.

Great post!  The sooner the world gets back to sensible attitudes instead of unfounded mass hysteria (government generated I believe) the better we shall all be.

I read in the news recently wearing a facemask outdoors then taking it off when indoors is like walking round with a crash helmet on then taking it off when getting on a motorbike. 🤗

Cant come soon enough (the scrapping I mean).  Ludicrous instances: a single person driving a car; sitting on an uncrowded beach; walking down an empty street etc etc.  In Torrevieja walking along the sea front within yards of people sitting at cafes and others on the fixed benches.&nbs...

...p; They will be sitting there eating or drinking, no masks, and yet people walking a yard or two away are compelled to wear a mask.  What on earth is that all about?

Why do people feel they have to wear masks ALL the time.  I have seen people leaving their homes masked up just to take a bag of rubbish to the bin, twenty yards away, on an empty street.  I believe that common sense is the best way to live, in all circumstances.  Wearing a flimsy bit of cloth over your face serves no purpose whatsoever in an isolated situation.  I can only think people have become so paranoid over time that it's like a crutch to keep you going, no matter what.

Oh, and I know what kind of responses I will get to this from some people - "It's the law, deal with it!".  Since when do all laws make any sense?

Nobody has yet posted links to any research showing any effect if of the face cloths worn by the public now. We are not talking surgical masks, just the ones with openings all around.

The research I have seen, shows it makes no difference in open spaces. In addition, people get closer as they feel it is safe, and may well spread any infection more efficiently. It would be very pleasant if people started using their brains rather than following rules that make no sense.

I'm unable to wear a mask for more than a few minutes and often take it off, rather than lifting it to breathe. Several times have I walked past the police, no comments from them.

Newspaper headlines today:

"UK Covid cases today hit 3,000 for the first time in a MONTH, sparking calls for tougher restrictions as the Indian variant continues to spread".

"Daily infections grew by 18 per cent compared to last Wednesday's rise, reaching their highest level since April 12".

One good reason to enforce the face mask rules!!

Are you saying a single person driving his car alone is expected to wear a mask?

Sounds very scary doesn't it? Well lets deal in some Facts

The UK has now relaxed many regulations including meeting indoors at home and drinking in a pub. Many other things have opened as well so the UK was expecting a large increase as these rules had the biggest changes that will happen on the path to normality. People now hug without masks. Fact

Yesterday Spain has 5007 diagnoses. Fact

The UK with a larger population and all the added risks of reopening had 3180 diagnoses. Fact

I was not saying dont follow rules but what I was saying that when people try and spin things because of internalised fears the rest of us have a duty to call it out, as many of us did with Covid deniers.

Facts really do matter when others might get scared by what others post.

Steve,

I have seen the same numbers reported though it is too early to say if it is due to the Indian variant or as a result of the latest easing of lockdown restrictions which happened on May 17th. In any event I don't think that changing mask guidance in the UK will make any noticeable difference to the figures. When indoors masks are required, out of doors they are not. That has not changed for some time now and these guidelines did not stop the number of daily infections plummeting from over 60,000 at the beginning of January to around 6,000 at the beginning of March. I think the UK guidelines are fine and I look forward to the time when mask wearing can be optional in all locations, hopefully in the not too distant future.

Aitch.

All the medical tests on face masks without exception have shown that they are totally useless and have no affect at all on containing the spread of anything
