A couple of years ago, the Traffico police in Andalucia had a two month purge on ex pat car registrations which they had been noting for at least 12months previously.    Dozens upon dozens of cars were seized and taken off to a holding compound.

Hi Wilky how are you?

Let’s have the full story here. Why were the cars seized and what happened to them?

Have a good day.

Probably because they had no insurance, no road tax in either UK or Spain, or an MOT.  My classic cars, because they are more than 40 years old, do not need either MOT or pay road tax in the UK - only need current insurance.   Solution?  Buy a classic car - my hobby!

Hi Richard, Classic cars and bikes are also my hobby, in fact I used to be a mechanic. So I presume you stay in Spain for just six months of the year, which is also my intention, do you leave your car behind which is also my intention with my bike. Is there any danger of the Police noting your distinctive car and wondering why its seen so often and for so long in Spain yet still on UK plates?

Its one of the reasons I have bought a place out here, so I can enjoy my hobby rather than watching my life wasted as I see its yet another rainy day back here in UK.

Hi someone,

The only details I recall from the translation of a Spanish newspaper were  :

1.  The traffico had to delay the operation until a large enough, secure compound was established and staffed.

2.  Some of the owners were fined and had their cars returned to themon condition they were re-registered to Spanish plates.

I donot remember hat to the rest of them.

You are usually given a set time to export it or transfer on to Spanish plates .
