Hi Folks,

I am trying to get back to the UK from alicante and my family are insisting that Easyjet are running reliable flights to Gatwick every Friday afternoon without fail since January despite the many restrictions. However my friends here in spain and on various other platforms as well as me reading the newspapers are telling me of countless occasions were flights have been cancelled at the last moment,  refunds delayed or never paid and not to mention the money wasted on pcr tests and additional transport and accommodation costs.  I just cannot afford to keep paying for new bookings, New tests, more transport fees and looking for new accommodation if the flight is cancelled and I am in the top 4 priority risk groups for Covid and terrified of taking the risk to fly back now and self quarantine for w/o days with 2 more tests. I'd rather wait till mid march

Can anybody please give me any insight into what is going on in reality as i am self isolating here in Alicante and can only rely on what the internet,  tv and few expat friends are telling as and when. I've tried the consulate and they have been as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike - do I book this month and chance it or wait it out till mid march please ? Many many thanks from an desperate lonely soul haha 😮😤😯

My understanding is the same as your family's advice and I think the weekly flight to Gatwick on Fridays is the only one running from Alicante until late March.  We are on our third cancellation with Easyjet from Alicante to Bristol and have been able to re-book very easily every time without charge.  Fortunately for us we have no pressing need to get home and will just wait until it's easier.  All the cancellations have been several weeks in advance, so I'd be very surprised if any were made at short notice unless it was for something beyond the airline's control. They need to plan ahead what's happening with their aircraft and crews.

If you are worried about Covid, your safest option is to stay where you are.

Despite worrying about my family in the UK I am also worried about Covid and because of my age and comorbidities I am x4 more likely to hospitalized and x30 higher risk of death according to the CDC.  My family thinks its just a walk in the park to travel during a pandemic and the expenses can be considerable even if things don't go wrong. I also have no place to self isolate in the UK. I used to live with my brother but he has a young daughter and is unable to help etc etc Vaccination for my group is hoped by end April plus ! I think I would be more a burden than a help

Thank you for your insights though, much appreciated. Stay safe , good luck.

Spain is NOT on the UK red list, so he won’t need to Hotel quarantine.

I have not been aware of easyJet cancelling their Friday flights. In fact I was hoping they would as I have one booked for this Friday 19th and can’t now go and only free change if within 14 days.
if you don’t get your test until the day before you won’t lose out, however you do have to order the 2 tests package before departure but would imagine if you don’t open them due to not travelling you could use them when you do ! You have to put the reference they give you on the locator form.
