I buy Maton.  The red tin. Less than €4 and lasts a year  , I do it every time I’m there as I leave.  Brilliant. When I leave my house down in Mojacar , I use black gaffa tape to seal the bottom of my doors from the outside as I leave .  I spray the Maton. everwhere round ...

...every corner in my house .As I back out lol.  IF anything at all gets in,and we are normally away six months in summer ,  they die within a foot of entry. Cannot recommend it enough.   I am totally paranoid too lol.  I leave my house hermetically sealed lol. I hope this helps.

Maton sounds good.  Where do you get that?  I’m surprised that you need to put tape on the bottom of your doors.  How can they squeeze through external doors when there is no gap?

No I haven’t stamped on any but have hit them with something solid.  It’s amazing how hard it is to kill them though.

Disgusting creatures 😡

I use Raid in the Gold Spray to kill them. It does it in less than 5 seconds.

Lol.  We have old 18 yo wooden doors not double glazed upvc and there is always a slight gap at the bottom. we have never had a cockroach as we are in the Mojacar desert area ,up in the hills it’s called Serena. But cockroaches like damp. But we get tiny wee worm looking centipede things that just curl up n die lol.  But I don’t want anything in and just to be sure i tape the doors. We do have some tiny ants out on the 20,000 square metres of land and they come onto the patio. Doing their own thing in their little line lol. So,as I spray all around the outside of the house, and window cills doorways ,I don’t even get an ant in the house anytime. Any Chinese shop or ferreteria has it and Mercadona too.   You will be amazed by Maton.

Great.  But that won’t stop them when you are not there , Maton is the best thing as you then never need to spray anything while there , it just works continuously. In the 18 years since we built our house , I’ve never bought an instant killer.

They HATE bay leaves! I put dried bay leaves in cupboards, wardrobes, and on paper plates under furniture, it really works. Also Mercadona have a very good insecticide floor wash [it's pink] They don't last long after they have walked over that. It's called S-95 friegasuelos insecticida.

But how safe is it for humans?  What happens if you walk across the floor in bare feet?  It must irritate the skin at least ?

How can this happen?  I have just been scared to death (I know, totally irrational) by the appearance of a very lively cockroach next to my pedal bin in the kitchen.  It had better be the only one, a leftover from last summer, because I can't abide them in the house.  Last July, wh...

...en I was here for a week, I found at least one a day, mostly downstairs but one or two upstairs.

This trip has lasted just over six weeks so far and there have been none at all, no ants, no mozzies, no cockroaches - until now.  I'm a nervous wreck again.  I know it's stupid but it really did catch me unawares.  I had just finished washing up and was putting something in the pedal bin which caused me to move the bin slightly and it just shot out, at speed, did a circuit around the bin and back under it.  Needless to say I grabbed something solid, moved the bin again and luckily this action tipped the blighter onto its back.  It had no chance then and one cockroach was despatched quick time.

I really don't understand what it is doing in my house at this time of year and, of course, I will, in the morning, go over the floors carefully with the special cleaning fluid and then will put some of the traps down that I bought not expecting to need them until next summer.  Has anyone else had a visit in recent weeks?

Michael (heart rate just about back to normal now!)

Hello Carol

Ugh, that's horrible on your worktop!  I would have reacted the same way.

My worst experience was last July.  Apart from seeing them just about every day I was there I was really put out one evening when I was sitting on my sofa watching tv and I saw something move out of the corner of my eye.  I had a cup of tea and a small plate with a couple of biscuits on it, on a coffee table right next to me.  There was one of these disgusting creatures just about to climb onto the plate!!  I went berserk and grabbed something solid to kill it with.  I did wonder how it had got up there - maybe crawled up my sofa and onto the table?

I have heard stories of them being found in people's beds.  The first time I see one under my duvet will be the very LAST night that I spend in this country!!
