Hi

Does anyone know if a Verisure alarm can be set up to work without monitoring and without paying a monthly contract fee

Hi Jerry,  this is something I would like to know too, as I dont want to pay my monthly fee when I live in Spain permanent, and luckily I have a wired in UK alarm too which also rings my keyholder or me when activated. I,ve been paying  500€ for 12 yrs, a lot of money. It will depend on whether you paid their special low fee on installation as that will be their system, but we paid upfront over 600€ and equipment is ours. Have you phoned Securitas and asked them if you can cancel the monthly contract?. Its too soon for us but I will be asking them to cut the monitoring service at a later date.

Pauline.

Hola reference your question about your alarm , if you stop paying you're monthly fee the alarm will not function it is a monitored system that is the whole idea of this type, you can stop you're monthly fees normally two years from the date of installation, if you have a problem with the fees call Securitas and sometimes (not always) they will if the problem is financial you might get some months at half price for example but always remember this is also a help system and in the event of a emergency  this could save your life.

Thanks Bill for info, but 50€mnth is too much when we are on pension only and I had hoped when staying for longer periods, we could possibly cut off the months we are in Spain but retain when not(temp. suspension). On original installation we were told the alarm could be used without the monitoring service as we were forward planning at the time, so if you,re right thats just another spanish lie to add to the other hundreds of lies we have encountered. As to the help service, you need to access the keypad(in 1 room only ) so that isnt as much help as carrying a mobile. I will still ask Securitas and make more enquiries when time comes. Hope Jerry can answer when he too contacts them.

Pauline.

Hi Guys

I’m afraid I cannot add much to the post at this stage

I had the security guys come out to check the system

It was already in the house I just bought

He said it was the old system and would supply the new system “main box” for 199 and €41 per month after 3 years it would reduce to €33

He said it would not work unless it was connected their system. When I get back to Spain I will search for an independent alarm technician and see if can be done otherwise I will try to buy an independent system.

Hi Jerry, I have repeatedly asked for past 12yrs on forums for an alarm tecnician to oversee my wired in alarm closer than Javea(Javea Alarms) but never have I received a response. In Spain there are only battery operated alarms which are  also monitored for similar monthly outlay, I was lucky a friend told me about my UK alarm, however it costs me 100€yr for a check as poor guy comes so far, normally charges 50€ for a service. Securitas changed my alarm onto new system last year. Because you are in an expat area and most businesses that speak english are also on the coast you should fare better, but I,d be grateful if you can let me know if you come across a UK alarm fitter/technician who could possibly service mine please. Interrested how you get on

Pauline

Hi I think the alarm will work but unless you have a key holder living within sight of your property who could turn it off, it is not much use.  You could use a camera inside that records activity but you would still have to have a key holder that would be willing to contact the police or check the property.  The camera also gives some peace of mind when you are away as the app on your phone will alert you to any intruders.  The Yale alarm system in the U.K. is pretty good as you can turn it off and on from anywhere plus it takes pictures and video, and runs off the internet, so can be used in Spain.  Hope his helps.
