I had responses pretty much as expected but I certainly don't appreciate being told to "take responsibility" or "plan ahead".  That suggests I'm some kind of idiot who cannot organise my own life.  I hope I'm not.

The fact is that I DID have ten days put aside for any eventuality in the new year.  I was going back on the 17th but personal circumstances have caused me to slip the flight to the 26th, and Jet2 charged me another 50 euros for that privilege by the way!  So I will have just one day of...

... my 90 until the next 90 day period comes round.  So be it.  I'm not expecting a quick sale anyway so no problem.  I'll deal with it.

I said at the top of my original post that I was not expecting a definitive answer from anyone and that I was only seeking personal views concerning their own, or others' experiences.  I was not looking for advice about how to organise my life.  Maybe I shouldn't have bothered asking the question at all.....

No suggestion was made by me regarding your idiot quotient, just my opinion as you requested.

It's reassuring to know that you had factored an allowance into your stay, obviously you had considered that there might be unforeseen circumstances which may have needed another visit.

One other point I would make is that if you think you might not like the answer, it's often a good idea not to ask the question.

I wasn't directing that at you and you're right - it's probably best not to ask such questions on here because many have an inability to read what the original poster is actually asking.  Some would rather comment on my lack of planning ability, or whatever.  That's not what I was asking for - merely any information regarding anyone they knew who had "tested the system".

I'm sure somebody knows somebody who has tried it and I was hoping to hear what the outcome was.  A telling off?  Fine?  Refusal to allow you into the country?  That kind of thing.  Lectures I don't need, thanks very much!

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Not even that, Carol.  Just personal experience, or know someone who has it, of the problem.  I wasn't expecting anything definitive because, as we all know, the plot moves sometimes daily and no one really knows what to expect any more.

I really don't expect to suddenly get a buyer during the next few months, but you never know.  If that should happen I'll deal with it as best I can.

I'm if sorry it's not what you want to hear but whether you care for the characterisation or not property sales and purchases are part of day life not just in Spain but across the world and that places them firmly under the definition of 'mundane'.

They can also be enacted completely remotely, including clearing out of personal property,  so it's very difficult to see how it could be taken as sufficient justification for exceptional travel.

How about clearing out the things you want to keep but leave the property it habitable by buying some cheap second hand furniture etc. so if it does take a time to sell you can still use it leaving what's there behind when you do  finally go?

It's also of course perfectly feasible to contact a storage company to come clear out your stuff on demand and store it or foreward it to you.

As regards testing the system, some friends of mine in their motor home had a breakdown and overstayed by 2 weeks were fined on leaving Schengen zone €180 each. This was September 2021.
