Hoping to purchase a holiday home soon in Los Balcones area. Can anyone please recommend a good English speaking Lawyer to deal with the purchase. I am also looking for recommendations on the best place to open a bank account as I am hearing some people are having trouble with their banks. Many thanks.

What you need is knowing what you are about to buy. Don't trust what you are told, better find out yourself. Get from the seller or his agent the "referencia catastral" a chain of some 20 digits, numbers and letters. With this information get a so called "copia simple" from the land register "Registro de la Propiedad" and then the "valor de referencia" online from https://www1.sedecatastro.gob.es/Accesos/SECAccvr.aspx. Bear in mind that you will have to pay +/- 12% taxes and fees. Do not accept undeclared payments.

When I lost my wife in 2014 I used Sol Med solicitors based in Los Balcones.
Every phone call is answered, every email replied to with excellent explanations.
They have a Scottish lady working there who helped me through all the way, she is unbelievably helpful and patient.
I took several quotations from other solicitors, these ranged from 3500 to 6000 based upon an apartment valued at app 75000e.
Solmed were at the lower end of the quotes.
