I have a Gas Boiler with 2 showers.  We cannot regulate the heat on the showers properly- either too hot or too cold.  We were going to change the shower to a Thermostatic shower but the plumber said that the water in torrevieja wasn't suited for this.

I like the gas boiler but thinking of changing as trying to regulate the water is driving us crazy.  The water pressure is very good and there is nothing else running in the apartment.

Any thoughts on this?  I have seen thermostatic showers advertised in Spain that state suitable for lime in the water.

Any help would be appreciated.

I had my thermostatic shower fitted 7 years ago in my apartment in Benidorm. Its a hard water area but I've had no problem with the water temperature. The kettle needs descaling about every couple of months but the shower has a constant temperature. It can be expensive to buy so get plenty of advice from local residents.

Many thanks for this.  Just to give me an idea - roughly what did you pay and did you buy it direct?  We have a holiday apartment in Playa de Cura (live in Ireland) and haven't used it much as we bought it late 2017 and COVID.  Our building is mostly 90% elderly Spanish and our Spanish is nearly non existent.

Again many thanks for your post.

Two major gaps in using gas boilers: water pressure and lime. After trying various alternatives I decided to use electrical equipment (not less than 15 or better 25 gal. capacity). I have the water warming up during night hours when power is cheaper. Every 4-5 years the sacrifcial anode has to be replaced which is not stated in the manuals.

Thermostatic shower mixers start at about 100 euros including the riser rail and head (eg LeRoy Merlin).

If you have a gas boiler that heats the water directly without a hot water tank and you've got separate hot and cold taps it may be that you need to use it in a different way.  If the hot water flow is too low, it will get so hot that the boiler will cut out and it will then go cold.  Only use one shower at a time, run the hot only until it keeps a steady high temperature (which may take a minute or longer, depending on how far away the boiler is), then open the cold tap to regulate it.  If the hot water won't run continuously at a high temperature it may be that the maximum flow rate needs to be adjusted inside the boiler.

Hi,

As I said, it was 7 years ago when we had the thermostatic shower installed. It was included in the bathroom reform and can't remember the individual price.

Hi Gordon,

The Hot water flow maybe too low as you stated, it gets very hot, then the boiler cuts out and the water is cold. There is not separate taps.  It is a type of rain shower head with a handheld with one controller that you move towards you for hot and back for cold.  We only ever use 1 shower at a time.

We hope to go back this month as we are both retired now.  I will try your instructions - Hopefully it will work.  I don't really want to go with an electric boiler as some of my sons like to stay in the shower and may use up the water for anyone else.  Though if we can't regulate the water as per your instructions and a thermostatic mixer isn't an option, I may have to consider it as it is very frustrating at the moment.

Many thanks for your help on this.

Hi Steve

Our bathrooms were done as a reform as well so I understand.

I was hoping you might know the brand.  I have looked at the Leroy Merlin ones as they seem to vary in price.

I don't mind paying - it just I would like to be sure it will work.

Again Thanks for your help- much appreciated.

Hi, Yes, all my bathroom equipment also came from Leroy Merlin too.
