Thanks once again Kim for the great information my daughter just booked our flights yesterday to the Birmingham exhibition so I guess I'm going there now. I'm only 53 so defo need a job. I'm feeling a bit deflated now because I so desperately want to go out there to start a new life but hey I won't give up yet. 😉

Hi Michelle

If you need a permanent job to pay a mortgage you are going to have to live somewhere that is busy all the year round. The Southern Costa Blanca is very seasonal and a lot of the restaurants and bars close through the winter months - I really would rent first of all before totally committing yourself. Good luck!

Thanks you for the information. I want to go out there to make a better life enjoy the sun get some work. I'm quite a lively person I'm from Dublin in Ireland so I love the touristy feel. I need a lively place to live.

Gosh Michelle your dreams would certainly be stepped on if you took on board all of the replies on this forum.

“Hard facts” may be fine but some replies are equivalent to shouting at someone!

Tone not acceptable and not all truthful.  “ A Place in the Sun” shows way more than “ghettos”  Spanish towns, rural France,  Florida,  hardly ghettos...

Please don’t be put off anything

Good luck and best wishes

Kim, I agree with you.  Members who offer a degree of realism are very helpful, especially if they do so without rudeness.

Thank you for your very helpful posts.  :)

We went the A Place in the Sun exhibition in October 2018 and like you, were a bit concerned that they would not be interested in helping us as we had a small and tight budget. Nothing could have been further from the truth. We bought a place just outside Torrevieja in a lovely urbanisation( not a Brit ghetto) in November 2018 and have never looked back. Yes it is scary but I cannot praise the people who helped us highly enough. Go into it with an open mind,be prepared to look at some awful places, but enjoy the experience and I hope you find something you like.

Hello Michelle, to add to advice already given, do not ever use the Abogado recommended by the Estate Agent. For some, it may all go smoothly enough if there are no problems with the property but if there are problems (which you may not find until years later), you need your own independent professional who will be looking out purely for your own interests.
Something which totally surprised me was flash flooding (https://www.theolivepress.es/spain-news/2019/04/21/level-1-emergency-declared-as-largest-easter-storm-in-73-years-hits-the-costa-blanca/). Luckily I am unlikely to be affected due to where I live but some properties in low lying areas near the lakes and in heavily built up coastal areas are at risk. The floods don't last long but they are closely followed by posts asking for pumps, emergency numbers, places to dump damaged furniture and furnishings etc. Do a google comparison between rainfall in Kent currently and Torrevieja at Easter to get a better idea and there is plenty of footage online.
I was also totally unprepared for how cold it feels here at night in winter. Temperature charts show it rarely goes below zero but  it feels much worse due to the inferior construction and lack of insulation and heating. Many bathrooms have no heating at all and Killjoy is obviously made of sterner stuff than many of us as heating inquiries are quite common on here.
I would suggest renting for a full year because winter and summer are so different. Hustle and bustle in winter could become party central til early morning, every morning, in summer and hustle and bustle in summer can become ghost town in winter. As buying and selling here is not only expensive, but can take years, it is really important to get it right first time. You only have to look at the sheer number of properties for sale here to understand that you will have plenty of choice and you are unlikely to ever get in a price war although agents will always tell you someone else is interested.
If you get it right, and Brexit doesn't throw too many spanners in the works, this is a wonderful place to live, urbanizations, cities or countryside, whatever floats your boat. All the very best for the future.

Ahh cheers thanks so much for all the information my head is in a tizzy not knowing what to do. I'm not in a position to retire not that I would want to as I'm only 53. I love to work and keep busy I just can't believe how expensive the taxes are why are they so expensive. If this doesn't work out for me I will be very sad as I have thought about this for so long. I'm not ready to give up yet though.

Thanks again shelly

Ahh Linda that's brilliant congratulations it's nice to hear some positive feedback about the exhibition as I suppose everyone's experience is different. It gives me a glimmer of hope. Could I private mail you for to ask you some other questions please.
