My recommendation is to look around between October and February to to get real impresson about what you can expect.

Yes that is a great idea thanks for that.

Thanks ray, I’m open to anywhere at the moment (south of Torrevieja though) and have hired a car to have a good look around. Doubt very much this will be my only investigative trip and may possibly rent from September for 6 months.

1. Hopefully you drive, if you want a job/work, then it is almost a must.
2. Speaking Spanish does not guarantee a job - it may help to an extent, but a Spaniard will give another Spaniard a job, over an English expat.
3. You can rent cheaply, 10-15 minutes outside of Torrevieja (not sure about costs in Torre), you can rent a 2 bedroom flat - Rojales / Formentera €250 per month.
4. You have a chance of success, starting your own business. Many expats struggle to find work and utilise some of their skills to set up small businesses.
5. There's usually menial work - cleaning, waitressing, bar work - those ones are the easier jobs to find. Office jobs, less so, unless you have a specific skill set which you can utilise or offer.
