Hi Everyone

Just looking for advice regarding whether the EHIC card will be enough to cover me and my wife regarding the Covid19 virus as our travel insurance has expired.

We came to Spain in the car to visit my mother and father that are residents here in Spain.

The Brittany ferries in Santander were all canceled until further notice.

We called the Embassy in Alicante regarding if it was possible to travel through Spain and France but the Embassy said that Spain and France could change the travel regulations at any point plus the French police required attestation forms in French and English.

I thought that would be too much risk and getting stuck in France with the hotels also closing on the 26 March.

I would appreciate anybody's comments because I guess there are other people in a similar situation and could be helpful to others.

Helpful, but on the subject of travel insurance it would be unlikely that they will extend a policy as many of the insurance companies stopped selling new policies over a week ago and in my view they will be wanting to wash their hands of existing policy holders as soon as possible.

What about 12 months annual travel insurance policies that are automatically renewed, as ours is due the beginning of April.

Check with your insurance company as you may find Covid19 is a new exclusion.

Any insurance will exclude Covid19 virus.

But thank you for your input.

I have just checked the renewal notice received, what I can understand is that if you traveled before the outbreak and no government advice and dates not to travel, then all will be covered, if you traveled after advice/dates given not to travel then the virus would not be covered, so I feel I would be covered arriving 28th February, but my wife would not be as she arrived 16th March, the reason being the lockdown here in sstarted 14th March.

Not sure if this is relevant as we are residents with private health insurance (early retirees).

I read somewhere last week that covid 19 would not be covered by health insurance.

I e-mailed to check and had an e-mail and phone call in response.

We can still attend any of the emergency departments in the private system but if we have symptoms we are advised to phone the number published for our area.

If we needed testing and or treatment this WILL be covered, insurers and government have an agreement.

So while small print may say epidemic/pandemic not covered, this has been deemed an exceptional circumstance.

One less thing to worry about!

Stay safe everyone.

The borders  are open to France with no problems there never has been any problems you need to download a Attestation  for each of you ,you are allowed  to stop at service stations to take rest, fuel and food right the way to.the tunnel for the safety  of you parents  ot would be better for you to return to UK.Good luck in what ever you do.

Mini is due for annual renewal 18 April. Received a letter this morning stating that it will not be automatically renewed. I would have to make a fresh application

As we are back in uk I shall renew when we are next able to take a holiday and not before.
