Hi Lynn, I'm visiting Torrevieja in November and going down to the ",Service Canada today to see what's happening with my passport because I know I have enter the number on the " Carta  de  visitation,"  so when all is complete I will gladly write about my experience on the forum. ...

Hi Tony

If you’re the visitor, you do realise then, that it’s not you who completes the application.

It has to be completed here by the Spanish resident/national who either as a friend or a family member is inviting  you to stay at their property with them.

Possibly to ensure that foreign visitors (non EU) can prove they have a place to stay if they arrive without a hotel booking, rental contract or proof of home ownership.

This is not a new thing and has applied to non EU visitors for many years. However, I don't know of anyone from the UK who has been asked for el carta de invitacion. It could be that 3rd countries who do not require a visa to enter Spain also aren't asked for an invitation letter from their hosts...

....

Thank you for your reply about the Spaish law regarding

"The letter of invitation "  I wasn't sure because I live in Canada and the law here is a bit different in that you only need an official form if you are applying for a visa otherwise an hand written one by the  host you are staying with is sufficient

Thanks again Tony C

Hi Lynn, re: " La carta de invation" unfortunately I won't be able to follow up on your request because I haven't received my new passport  from " Canada passport services" yet and the # is required on the letter. In Canada it is taking up to 5 months to get a passort!!!
