Thieves on the beach

Be warned.

If you go to the beach, only take what you need. Minimal amount of cash.  Read on Facebook that a man had his bag stolen by a thief on the La Mata beach at Blondy’s while he’d gone for a swim

This is nothing new  It’s happened over the years. We all carry expensive items with us and shouldn’t have to worry about thieves but they want to relieve us of our iPhones, kindles, iPads , sunglasses, credit cards, money or anything else of value

Give some thought and don’t make it easy for them , try to put a handle from your beach bag under the leg of your deckchair, keep the bag zipped. Don’t pull out a wad of cash when paying for something.

Please be careful and don’t ever carry your passports anywhere  take a photograph of it and print it out. Carry that for ID but leave your passport in the safe  Driving licence should remain in the glove compartment of your car.

Do not give these rotten opportunists a chance to rob you

Enjoy relaxing on the beach

Just a thought. If you have a cool bag with you, it might be a better place to keep small valuables eg in a Tupperware container. Room for car keys and credit card!

I have a waterproof bag (ebay) with long cord attached  my cash and phone etc go inside, i then bury in  the sand leaving the cord exposed and fastened to my chair or underneath my towel.

No, Spain is not crime ridden any more than any other country  & compared to many other European countries it is relatively crime free if you are sensible and vigilant about your belongings and property.

There are opportunists like this in every country, the onus is on you to take precautions. They know people tend to he more relaxed on holiday so don't make it easy for them.  Labelling a country as being crime ridden like this is wrong especially when it's not true.

Where do you have this TRUTH from? As long as you have people with phones in their back pocket, handbags hanging over the back of their chair in the pub or wearing expensive jewellery or watches at the local market, you will be inviting criminals. Just like every other country in the world. 🤔

Personally (touch wood) I've never been a victim but just last week my wife had her purse lifted from inside a zipped up bag. Admittedly, this wasn't on the beach, it was on the Metro in Madrid but the really annoying thing is that she was travelling from the airport to the hotel. She'd only been in Madrid for about half an hour but she'd spent the previous week wandering around New York with all the dangers that that entails with no incidents of any kind.

It just goes to show that it can happen anywhere, not just at the beach.

Be careful out there folks and stay lucky.
