Book a week in a couple of places, alternatively hire a car, look around as to where you feel most comfortable then start to look for property in that area. You can decide whether you want coastal or rural location, do you want a villa on an urbanisation or a property in a village. On an urbanisation you will see and hear people speaking your native tongue, in a village you will have one or two properties owned by Brits but the majority will be Spanish. All these things will not be addressed on a viewing trip, on a tripe you will be whizzed around and only shown properties the company wants you to see. Remember these salesmen need your signature in that contract to make commission, perhaps the only wage they get.

Another option is to use an independent property finder. Zoe Humphries is a lovely friendly Scottish lady who specialises in showing people around the different Southern Costa Blanca areas and finding out exactly what they need. A friendly personal service highly recommended by previous clients

Do it yourself. Look up lots of properties online, many can be viewed on Google Streetmaps and will show you what they’re like and give an idea of the area. If not suitable then dismiss them. Make up a list with as many properties with as many agents as you want to. Shorten it to suit. Visit then and stay independently. Give yourself plenty of time and if you’ve a rental car take a day or 2 and look at the properties from outside yourself before ever meeting an agent. You might dismiss a few this way and save time viewing unsuitable ones later on. Be independent and don’t tie yourself to any one agent or be rushed into buying. Property moves very slowly out here. Your the boss

Hi Max
You are much better of doing it yourself.
I did and bought a house in 6 days of looking. I would recommend Kay copley at lemontreecasas she is based in villamartin but covers other areas.
If you want any more information please don't hesitate to message me.
Thanks Lorraine

We arranged our own flight and accommodation, and Casas Manuel were really helpful, emailed them a few times before we arrived. We sldi contacted another estate agent, not so helpful. Bought through Casas Manuel, would thoroughly recommend them.

Thus topic was discussed recently with some friends who informed me many companies charge for flights and hotel if you do not sign on the dotted line confirming you have purchased a property through them. Don’t know if this is correct but worth checking before jumping!

I fell reassured because of a "place in the sun". I was very wrong. Their Spanish company is called Euro Pristage. Gangsters, do not touch them. They hire "sellers" for the inspection trips and they don't pay them commession either.

The problem of viewing online us that most of the Estate Agents tend to leave attractive properties on their sites for up to 6mnths after they've been sold......claiming it's the hook to get you interested!......I used Alegria in Torre and as a Single Scottish woman told them my requirements & budget & viewed 4-5 properties per day until I decided on the 1 for me!....
