I've recently taken an over 70's driving test medical.  I found it quiet demeaning.  Has anyone else?  Others I've spoken to think it was not the norm.  On entering I was immediately asked to lift a chromed chair with arms and hold it out in front of me.  Next was stand on your toes till I say not to.  Hieght was measured, then asked my weight.  When I said 66 kilos approx. he put his hands either side, shook them up and down and said I think a lot more. I have checked it since 66.7 kilos and I'm 5'6 1/2.  Also wanted history of operation right back through life, should he go back that far?  He asked me to turn in my seat for eye test, an un measured distance with brilliant light above the chart.  He would only give me a 2 yr license as I have replacement eye lenses which I was told would not change during my lifetime.  Anyone know if this is right????.

Sounds like you were given a thorough Medical, did you expect that he would just rubber stamp your application.

You got a Licence for two years, that sounds fair to me as at over 70 a person's health or ability to drive safely may change a lot in that time.

In the U.K. over seventies have to renew their driving licence every three years so in a different country I think it is fair to expect a different regulation and getting a licence for two years is reasonable.

I agree with the other responders. The medical could have been much more stringent, as my wife and I know personally. Count yourself lucky!

I had the full test, the second part hearing and movement control went fine with a different person who said I did well.
