Elinspain which area do you stay, keen to know where the good bus service is. Also apologies if you've stated and I've Kissed it somewhere

Hello,  I  live just outside the centre of  La Mata.   La Mata have 2 buses that leave from there & take different routes into Torrevieja... Line A  & Line A2.

There is also a Line C that passes very close to  La Mata centro  so I have access to all 3.

Cheers

I am looking to come out in the summer with my kids and would like to stay in a holiday rental rather than a hotel to get a proper feel for buying a home in the future. Is car hire essential or is there anywhere in the area that has a good public transport service? I will want to visit the beach,...

... Villamartin plaza, La Zenia boulovord, the salt lakes etc. Really didnt want to drive as I want to relax. Should I just get on with it and hire the car...gulp?

Thanks

Hi,

My personal advice based on long experience in the area would be to hire a car, particularly if you have children.

Bus services in the area are cheap indeed but frequency is unreliable to say the least,  timetables are just an indication (got it from a bus driver's reply to an irate spanish customer afterover 1h30 wait in the heat).

We live on the G line route San Luis to Torrevieja,  service is abysimal, B line slightly better but can also be erratic, can't say much about other lines as I don't use them.

There are connections to other towns but do your research first, for instance despite what Google may report there is no direct connection to Elche.

Hope it helps and enjoy the stay.

I have attached some pictures of the app. You have 3 choices guardemar, Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa.

I have clicked on the Orihuela Costa section and it shows 2 options, both going to La zenia Boulevard, 1 from Torrevieja Hospital and 1 from up passed cabo roig. Then I clicked into the Torrevieja Hospital option and it shows you all th3 different stops along the way., you will notice at the top it says parada, then there's another tab saying Mapas, if you click that it shows you an actual map of where all the bus stops are located. You can then cross reference this with wherever you are and get to a bus stop easily.

I have also attached a picture of the Torrevieja section, it brings up a number of bus routes that run using not numbers but Alphabetically A - H. For this purpose I selected E Line, which is the one that runs through my area and then the top option which is the smaller bus station in Torrevieja.  You can then see all the bus routes and LIVE information as to how long that bus is going to be.

Its an extremely good app and once you get used to it, makes life alot easier to get around.

Hello Claudio

There is a bus that stops in Torrevieja & goes to Elche ....it is a small mini bus. I wait at the stop outside Hotel Fontana for my buses home to La Mata & see this bus at certain times... people get on & off at that stop & Elche is displayed on the front. I(ts a busy bus stop & the driver often shouts Elche when he stops there

Here is the timetable....4 buses a day.

Hi Ely,

thanks, we had looked into this about a couple of months ago when we needed it but somewhere else on the site it reported service as no longer active...

If it still is then they keep it very well hidden, even tourist office didn't know about it and that is a proof of how unreliable they are. Personally we are looking forward to get a car but appreciate we all se things differently. 👍

Hire a car there'll be things you want to see and do that public transport/taxis aren't going to allow and you have the convenience too.  Only drawback is cost of car hire has risen in the last couple of years and the driving of course!
