If you hold UK passports, it is no longer a case of how much do you need to live comfortably ...

Post-Brexit, you need to meet demanding financial criteria to gain a visa and then your TIE.

This thread goes on a bit, but it has the necessary info ...

Spanish Consulate Update - application and income requirements, post Brexit - confirmation, Non-Lucrative Visa.

Kelvin1960 has given you a good link to follow and it's full of good information.

In a nutshell........

To be able to live in Spain permanently You will need to initially apply to the Spanish embassy while you are still living in the UK for a non lucrative visa and be able to meet the income and healthcare requirements. For you and your partner you will need to prove that you have full healthcare paid for a full year and have an income of around €33,000 per annum.

Kelvin and Tebo have given good replies, however, if you have €33000 sitting in your bank, and your healthcare paid, it’s quite possible to then live reasonably on your state pension. We do this and it covers our monthly rental and bills.

The new process is still unfamiliar.

But it looks like there are several checkpoints over a 5 year period, leading to permanent Residency.

Initial Non-Lucrative-Visa application - evidence of an available 33k Euros for the first year for a couple.

At year 2 - evidence of 66k Euros available to cover years 2 & 3

Ditto at year end year 3 for years 4 & 5.

Not sure if further evidence is required at year 5.

Hi Samuels

Getting a cost of living out in Spain is hard to give, as it very much depends on your outgoings - whether you will be eating out regularly, like to go to the pub, have a car or not… so many variables.

The replies that you have received so far are giving you the financial criteria that you must meet in order to apply to live out in Spain in the first instance - if you can’t satisfy these requirements sadly you won’t be able to live there on a permanent basis.

Personally, I have found that its slightly cheaper to live here in Spain. If you are renting it will be around €500 per month for a 2 bedroom apartment plus electricity and water bills. Some rentals include the water costs inclusive in the rent. I find the Electricity is about the same as the UK. If you want the internet installed its about the same as the UK. Buying and running a car is more expensive. Meals out are really cheap (often cheaper to eat out than in) Beer and spirits are half price.

I personally manage to live out here in Benidorm for less than it cost in the UK.

I find everything about the same, going out to eat and drink is definitely cheaper but shopping for groceries, clothes and household items are broadly similar, cars are much more expensive, broadband is a bit more expensive and utilities are a bit more expensive.
