Hi Simon,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I'd be highly surprised if you could find a suitable property for £30k, in fact treble that budget would probably be more realistic.  Whilst property is a lot cheaper in Spain anything that seems too good to be true will be cheap for a reason.  Also, the purchasing costs are approx 14%-15% of the purchase price in terms of taxes etc so you'd need to factor this in to your total available budget.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, I think renting might be a better option so you're not locked in to something - property can literally take years to sell in Spain and buying something unsuitable, however cheap can turn into a very expensive mistake.

Hi Simon, good luck with your search for a daily help, just a word of advice, make sure they are qualified to carry out the care that you need, and make sure that they have the relevant certification to do that. There are some unscrupulous folk out there so take care, I hope you get a perfect gem...

..., there are some around x

.... and are insured! Happy hunting. 🙂

Hi Caroline

I am still in the UK, Stockport near Manchester. The "Rainy city", so I need to get out to "Sunny Spain".

I am looking for somewhere around Torrivieja. Only as I have stayed there a couple of times and there seems to be quite a lot of English folk there. Which as I am now in this wheelchair, might come in handy !

I am not going to move until my parents have passed. Which, sadly for me, wont be too long. And is the only reason, I have put it on hold.

But as I have not bought anything YET, it means I can live anywhere. What's it like where you are ?

I currently live on an over 55's complex, by myself. I own 50% outright. Which will equate to about £80k. But as I am not too sure on what benefits I can receive in Spain, I DO NOT want to spend over £30k.. Which should get me a, 1 bedroomed, ground floor apartment ???

I simply adore going to the Zocco food market. I love to cook and to see all the various FRESH meats, fish and veg is wonderful.

If you prefer we could take privately via e-mail :- [email protected] .

Simon.

Simon, Torrevieja town is not wheel chair friendly, kerbs can be very high, trees in middle of pavement,

broken slabs and sometimes it disappears altogether.  if you use a scooter use the road.
Of course along the front is beautiful and tiled to perfection. So do some research before choosing where to move to. I have a grandson in a wheel chair so aware of problems.

Zoco market is good but the new Torrevieja market is huge now in a large flat plaza with lots of space and many cafes just to sit and people watch.

Hi Simon.

I agree with the previous poster that central Torrevieja is not wheelchair friendly. I spent a couple of weeks in a wheelchair with a friend pushing me and we spent more time in the road than on the pavements!

Outer areas of Torrevieja may be better.

Also please note that due to Brexit if you are planning on living in Spain  then you will need to become resident. This will require that you have a guaranteed income of around £25000, dependent on area.

You can find more useful info on the Citizens Advice Spain website - https://www.citizensadvice.org.es/

Good luck
