Hi everyone I am currently insured with Linea Direct and for house and contents pay over 300 euros. I bank with Sabadell and from April they are to commence charges. Due to this I have considered obtaining insurance from the bank as when doing so the bank dont charge you for the account.

I have contacted Linea Direct to put them on notice that from my renewal date I will be obtaining insurance elsewhere, they responded by telling me not to do so as they were willing to give me a 50% reduction.

I suppose half of what I pay to Linea Direct is better tjan nothing to tjem, but what a cut throat business is the insurance industry.

I am now weighing up my options as you do

Having finally escaped the claws of Sabadell, I'd also recommend you first find out what the tie-ins etc would be if you wanted to change bank account while still insured with Sabadell and vice versa. Though that will never explain their complete non-professional attitude to providing a service. I'd recommend steering well clear of doing anything with Sabadell (and from reading comments on this this forum, any Spanish bank/institution) and use a British insurance company... They are very competitive and abide by UK rules. As an example I use Schofield's. I can't emphasise strongly enough how I'd recommended not using Sabadell.. Complete incompetence and extremely rude staff was my painful experience at two of their branches. So I'd hate to think what a nightmare situation you could find yourself in, if you ever needed to claim on insurance with that company.

Enough said! :-)

Thanks Leafy211.

I will get a quote from Schofields, as your comments about escaping the claws of Sabadell do concern me.

Hi Roy

I would find out what rate they are offering first , then see if money corp, or euroexchange can do a better deal , sorry to say you have just missed the best rate for a long time.

I have been with Schofields for 3 years, since buying our holiday home. I was swayed by the fact that they have English speaking staff in Spain who would deal with any claims. Fortunately, not had to claim for anything.

I think their policy gives excellent cover, when empty in particular.

In January, my renewal was increased by about £20 over last years, because of all the flooding. Also, there were increases in the minimum cover for water based claims.

I would check those parts carefully.

I'm also with Linea Directa for both home and car insurance and I rang them today to discuss cancelling mid-term which I was advised is not possible, or at least I would not get anything back. The lady I spoke to said that they had people who had moved to their bank's insurance and have had major problems and come back to them (well she would, wouldn't she), but she also said she will ring me before renewal of both to offer discounts and I will keep your 50% in mind.
My dilemma is, do I renew with them to save quite a few bob or go with Alfonso when I have every confidence that if something should happen, I will have someone on my side rather than dealing with Linea Directa, well, direct?
