Hi Eileen, having mobility problems myself Spain in not in general very disabled friendly but you can make do and they are improving. I live south of Alicante and anywhere down that coastline is beautiful and like someone else has said transport links are normally good and so much cheaper than the UK.
Although during the hot summer months the humidity can be high the salt lakes are known for the dryness and healing factors. When we first purchased here 20 years ago this area was number 1 healthiest atmosphere in Europe and number 3 in the world. It’s great for aching joints, pains, arthritis and inflammation. I used to come here and severely reduce or take no pain medication at all. After a two week stay I used to go home a different person. So don’t be put off by comments about dampness and humidity it outweighs the cons tenfold. I hope you get to move here and start living the dream sun

The city of Valencia is not the only place.   Try the Salt Lakes area just inland from Torrevieja town.   As far as public transport is concerned that is very often almost non-existent except on the coastal (tourist) areas by the N332 coastal road.   I live about 20 ...

...minutes' drive inland from Torrevieja, we have quite a nice bus station but not many buses.

Thanxs so much  for the info I cant drive now so have to rely on public transport

That last sentence  puts a whole new prospective on things.

In a fair number of places public transport is virtually non-existent. So it will take a lot of research that would put you in an area, with everything on your doorstep.

Some areas have bus services once or twice a day others have no bus service at all. So a simple trip to the doctors might take you all day because of the bus schedules. You might never get to sit on a beach or even visit a local market. You could even struggle to get to your doctors or local hospital

Taxis are subject to licensing rules and in summer months with the influx of holiday makers it can be a nightmare to get a taxi- it’s hard enough out of holiday season.

You need advice from the regular bus users on here to tell you your  best options.

I have arthritic knees and joints..I have stayed in Lomas de cabo Roig for 2 years..I am relatively pain free after this time due to the warmer climate..make sure you find a location on a bus route to the major shopping areas or do as I did and buy a small car if you can..I have a dog and it was great for weight loss which also helps..Cabo Roig and La Zenia are relatively flat and have everything you would need there..

In the whole of Spain they did a survey on the happiest towns in Spain. In the Valencia Region, 3 towns made the list. Altea, Calpe and Denia. Denia mainly for the gastronomy and the others for scenic beauty and well being. I would think Altea would be out as the old town, which is really very beautiful, is also very hilly.

To my mind, Calpe is wonderful. Good public transport and facilities, a marvellous beach and plenty going on virtually all year round although it does get very busy in the Summer like all coastal towns.

As mentioned, you'd get better deals going a bit inland but public transport is terrible in most places away from the coastal towns. Calpe has buses throughout and a tram (narrow gauge railway) that goes up and down the coast from Alicante etc and very reasonably prices. Property in all those 3 places are higher than inland especially the closer you get to the beach.

Reference the arthritis, my wife suffered it badly in UK with her hands from a skiing accident when she was younger (why do they think putting their hands down when they fall will prevent injury?) and her knee after having a replacement some years ago. She does not suffer from arthritis here and her way of life has been immeasurably changed in the 14 years we have lived here permanently.

Arthritis and humidity do not get along very well and there is a lot of humidity here, year round... The most in Europe according to some sources...

Morocco or Nevada might be better but if you need Spain then Valencia city is your only choice...

Hello Ray are you saying Valencia does not have humidity or less than everywhere else .x

My aunt has arthritis and has spent the 15 winters in Benidorm and says her arthritis is much better than it is at home.
