Hola    I have received an email from NHS UK, saying that they are posting out to my Spanish address an S1, as I am 66 years old last week and being able to claim my State Pension. Yeah !!

However, I am a Spanish resident and received my S1 Form and SIP card, on the piggy back system from being my Husband's dependant in 2018. We use the Cabo Roig Health Centre, and I am not sure what to do when the new S1 arrives.

I applied and received my EHIC before December 31 2020.

Any help would be appreciated. Thankyou

Did they send you the email automatically without any prompting on your part? I ask because I'll be 66 and starting to receive my UK state pension in May, so was wondering if I needed to apply for the S1 form.

Anyway, best of luck to you!

Although you are safe for now with the piggy back way of receiving your S1 entitlement but if anything should happen to your husband then all healthcare cover will be cancelled which may affect your healthcare cover and your SIP card may become invalid.

That scenario was mentioned to me a couple of years ago when I was covered under my wife's S1. You should have healthcare coverage under your own S1 entitlement.

I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for it to arrive, my wife has applied for her S1 as she piggy backed on mine when we came across, 2 months later there is still no sign of it.

You need to register for a sip card in your own right. When my husband and I first came to Spain I piggy backed on him as he was retired but then when I reached 60 and became a pensioner I obtained a sip card in my own right
