The panels are on a townhouse 3 floors up on the roof, so there is no way we could remove them and make a carport, we have a garage, the problem is we need an engineer to say they are still working after 8 years............

you need a multymeter select dcv 50 volt range en put te pens on the ariving kabels fro the pannels se the voltage during te time the sun hits the pannels @1300H it will give max volt depending how the pannels are wired +24 or +48 volt. if 0 volt  it needs inspection.

Panels older than 3 years give like 300 watts, new ones are 500 watts for the same size, optimisers on each panel will allow bypass if a panel is in shade so total current doesn't reduce, they are all in series, make sure AC power cables to the board are big enough, use a reputable company like IEJD in Dolores and you will get all the grants, its a paperwork nightmare to try and do it yourself, you can get 2 grants and half your house suma back for 3 years, Valencia grant is typically between 3 and 5 thousand...

We have no idea if they are working so all the jargon you are telling me does not make sense. I realise I should not have joined this conversation as all the replies received I do not understand, so I will cancel this link.....

People are only trying to help out Lalo, obviously they are not aware of your limited understanding of these systems. If I was you I’d get a reputable company out to survey and advise what is needed, and the cost, to get your panels working and onto the grid

We have tried that for the last 3 years, we cannot find a Company that will check other peoples installations.  I already explained that we are pensioners and do not have understanding of how solar panels work as we were never in the industry of electrical fitting, my husband was a carpenter and I was a secretary.  So the reason I posted this in the first place was to find a company that would check as obviously we are too old to be able to get on a 3 storey roof.

I can understand your frustrations here Lalo, and am not surprised that companies don't wish to get involved in correcting/updating installations carried out by others. Seems like you either have to write off the idea of repairing/recommissioning the existing system and either abandon the idea or get a company in to spec up and provide a cost for a whole new installation.....

I wish yo uwell in whatever route you decide to take!

Try Solar in Spain and see if they will check out your installation

Selling surplus solar generated energy back to the grid is barely worth the effort IMHO. I pay circa 20 cents a Kwh for energy I take from them, they give me 5 cents a Kwh for energy I send back to the grid. No detail at all on my bill showing what they are giving me credit for. Size your array based on what you need for self consumption, selling it back isn’t economical at todays prices.

I have 10 4800 watt panels and a 5Kw battery

Use is 2 fridges ,oven, tv, lights ,and Air con for a hour  or  so before bed . pool pump for 2-3 hours a day

So do you think this is enough for a small 2 bed bungalow  To be almost off grid ?
