I wont disagree with you Jim as I dont get up and shower at 5am. However accuweather shows 6 days below 5 degrees throughout Jan 19 and surprisingly the same number of days below 5 in January 18.

Also I canbt speak from experience as my water heating is electric

I´m with you on this one Jim, there´s been no frost where we are but the thermometer has been at 3 several nights and not much more than that on many others. I just didn´t want to argue the toss with a gas engineer.

I bow to better judgement. Being a gas engineer doesn't make me any different. I can only go off my experience and when it's -2 in the UK I find it not too cold in Spain. No doubt when it has been cold I've been toasty warm in bed. I definitely am not up at 5am. I only looked on accuweather to check what they recorded In Alicante area. No need to gang up on me.

Not ganging up at all, just trying to solve someone´s boiler problem. Accuweather is as accurate as often as it is inaccurate, unfortunately. So, we have managed to find a possible solution between us and that´s the main thing. Buying one propane bottle to test the theory could sort the problem.

Maybe it's warmer my side of Alicante 😎. However I really don't think from the description of the fault that it's down to the type of gas used. If it was too cold for the butane then she would have no hot water at all. The description is to do with volume of water and not being consistent.

I appreciate that you know your stuff. I am looking for a hybrid system ie HVAC. Central Heating, Hot Water & acclimatisation using same hybrid radiators. There are not many systems out there but if you have some info I would be interested.

I can advise without a problem. However I'm not in Spain til mid March. Sound like you're not on mains gas as you have it working off Butano which is butane. You unfortunately will struggle to run any other taps whilst the shower is on. The unfortunate bit about electric is running your central h...

...eating. The electric heaters in Spain are generally water only. Ask me anything you want and I'll help as best I can. As I said I'm in Spain in March, not sure how urgent it is. I'm in El Campello but visit the torrevieja area as we have friends near San Miguel. My email address is [email protected] or [email protected]. All the best Stuart

how much does it cost to supply and fit combi and 9 radiators. Butane bottles just outside where boiler will be in utility. Just put boiler in position of current hot water cylinder

Just letting everyone know that I gave up in the end! couldn't cope with all the messing around so changed back to an electric boiler. One more cost to put down to my totally rubbish builder and his mates, couldn't even get anyone to look at it within the guarantee period as the builders had the receipt and said they had given it to us! of course they did............

Hi swcoulthurst

Sounds like you may be just what my husband and I are looking for! We moved into a villa we did a lot of work on last year and the builder -loose term here in hindsight- suggested a combination boiler which is powered by butanol gas bottle. Went ahead with this and since then haven't been able to...

... have a shower without it going boiling hot then freezing and can't use anything waterwise whilst the shower is on. So far no one has been able to suggest anything that helps so we have been looking for a qualified boiler person who could help before we take it out and revert to electric! Would this be something you could help with?

Hi swcoulthurst

Can I tap in to your knowledge please. We had a boiler working off a battery and butane gas, all was ok bath, shower decent hot water. For some reason we sprang a leak in the boiler so got a Spanish Plummer to replace it on his advice. We now have a boiler working off mains electricity and butane gas. The didgital reading on the boiler reads 48 degrees which is the highest setting. The hot water is  not hot enough to bath or shower, we can just about wash the dishes. Do you know of any easy fix, apart from debating it with the Spanish Plummer. Any information would be great .

Thanks

Believe it or not 48 degrees should be ok. It will be worse in winter because of the water temperature coming in. Showers etc only take about 6 ltrs per minute and a bath around 10-11 ltrs per minute. Do you know how many KW the water heater is. 48 degrees is the max I have seen here in Spain. The 48 degrees is the temperature of the boiler then there will be a temperature drop to the tap or shower. There is a possibility that the size of the boiler (kw) is too small. They start around 12kw.
