Advice for NIE replacement document

Hello! I have just moved to the Costa Blanca from Ireland. I lived and worked in Spain for a year in 2018. I set up my NIE number and bank account etc. After I moved back home I misplaced my NIE document but now I have moved back here and plan to stay. I have a scanned copy of the original NIE document but not the original paper copy.

My question is how do I go about getting a new document with my number on it? Most advice I have read deals with lost NIE numbers and how to reapply but I know my NIE number I just don't have an official document to prove it.

Any advice appreciated.

What do you need your paper NIE for if you know the number? Our paper copy only had a 3 month expiry date when we got it in 2015. We've never been asked to produce it since.

Just to be clear, you're not refering to a residency document are you?

If you need an official document containing your NIE the only way to get this is by going through the initial application process. At the interview with the police let them know the NIE number you already hold and they will confirm this by searching their database and confirming your identification at the same time. They will then provide you with written confirmation.

A scanned copy should be ok. My original was sent by email and my copies look exactly the same. Have never been asked to show it in the 12 years I have had it. Usually enough to remember your number.

Thank you very much for your answer. I thought I would need a document with proof of NIE for getting a job or to empadramiento etc but it seems like maybe it is not necessary.

Thanks Kenneth, I wasn't sure if I would need to have an official document as proof of NIE but your experience gives me some piece of mind, thank you!

Ah, OK. You are referring to residency.

You'll need to register if you want to work & intend staying longer tha 90 days. A few links below may help.
