Hello,

I've had a look through the forum, but can't see an answer to my specific situation - Apologies if it's been asked before!

Basically, I hold an Irish passport, and I'm already resident in another EU country --

I intend to be in Spain for around 4-5 months (My business and financial centre of interest is in Austria (i'm tax resident there), so will spend more than 6 months a year there) --

What do i need to do (if anything) in regards to registering myself here as i'm here for more than 90 days -- (if so, what locations can this be done at in the Torreivieja region?)

An additional complication is that my wife and kids currently hold British passports - I know they have the right to remain with me as an EU citizen with the same rights, but what I need to do in terms of registration for them as well?

Many thanks in advance for any help or advice!

As I understand the rules, after residing in Spain for 90 days, you are obliged to register as resident.  The easiest way around this legally is to pop to Gibraltar or France, Portugal or Morocco for 24 hours and then your 90 days will restart when you return to Spain.  As long as you are with your wife, she may do the same, but if she is not accompanied by you then she has to return to her country of residence for the following 90 days and is not allowed elsewhere in Schengen during that time.

I don't think that Spain recognises dual residency so if you're already resident in Austria then I don't think that you can register as resident in Spain (I may be wrong). However, your family can become resident in Austria on the back of your residency without too much trouble.

As the previous poster mentioned, if you leave the country for 1 day then you reset the clock but I don't think anyone is really bother for an EU resident (same as UK prior to Brexit). Your family will have the same rights when travelling with you but may face problems when travelling independently.

There is a bit here from the Dept of Foreign Affairs in Ireland.

If you want to register itooks like its the EX18 you do it on.
