Hola 👋 Is there anybody out there with experience of Firefly car rental from Alicante airport?

A friend visited for the week last week and picked up a rental car from them, he had already taken out additional U.K. insurance prior.

Car returned last Saturday with full tank of fuel. On Monday, he notices £156 lifted from his bank account by firefly. No email notification if this. He has tried ringing firefly but no answer.

He is unable to claim against his own insurance as has no invoice to show them 🙄

I will be going to the airport next week, so am fully intending to go to the desk and enquire on his behalf. I am considering making a banner to take with me saying “Don’t use Firefly” but on consideration will give them the opportunity to resolve 🤔

Any other advice as to how my friend can proceed with this would be gratefully appreciated

FYI I only ever used to use Edi, Lara and Wiber with no problems whatsoever 🤞

My only experience of Firefly was also through a friend, a lady in this case who on returning home also had money deducted, no forewarning, nothing. Took ages to get anywhere with them & eventually one of the famous “under the bumper” scratches was used. They’d probably made a few grand out of that spurious scratch already. No car hirer will acknowledge your policy for car hire cover as it’s in your name & not theirs or their car. It covers you once as you said you can get the proof of damage off them. I don’t know if they’ll trot out GDP rules if you call & refuse to discuss this case with you Paddy. Hertz of course own Firefly & use this firm & others they own to do their dirty work for them. Just used Wiber myself, again as you said along with Lara, Edi & a couple of more no issues. It all depends on availability & price when I’m booking.

If you contact Firefly's office at the airport (or their central Spanish office) by email or in person with the booking reference number and renter's name, they must provide you with an invoice.  It should have been sent to the renter's email address, but it's possible that was not entered in their system correctly, or it may have gone into a Spam folder.  If they won't provide an invoice you can start a 'chargeback' request with the credit card issuer.

You can log into their website and see your invoice, I was charged for fuel by them, luckily had taken photo showing it wasn't full on collection and after emailing customer service got the money back, if this fails contact your credit card company, I did this in the past with another company & got my money back for "false damage"

Firefly is the budget car hire of Hertz rent-a-car. Maybe try them if no luck.

I recommend that your friend calls their credit card company and raises the issue with them. By allowing Firefly to use their card services the CC company have endorsed them as a reputable company. Your friend will have more success with the credit card company putting pressure on Firefly to provide the reason for the charge that he/she would have as an individual. With luck it will turn out to be a "misunderstanding" and the money will be refunded.

The more people who raise these issues with credit card companies the more the chances are that something will be done about their rip-off charges.

Rgds,

Aitch.
