I should imagine for the same reason so many others are. Import duties, cost of goods, shipping costs, availability in other stores, too much competition.
We have lost several in our area which stocked goods you couldn't get anywhere else but can now get in a normal supermarket. Even had a local Tesco (sorry, should have put Iceland or Overseas) close down due to competition. We miss our chain of Jumerca Gama which have all closed in our area but it wasn't worth paying the premium for stuff that is now obtainable virtually everywhere and the equivalent local, and more importantly, cheaper alternative.
Plus the lowering of taxes and charges on electricity did not apply to commercial premises so their costs would have gone up considerably.
Shame for those running them and working in them but the dwindling customer base has made them unsustainable in these days of high inflation.

Muchas gracias for your prompt reply!
I used to go to the "Expats" store just outside Villajoyosa but there was never much choice and to get anything cheaper you had to buy in bulk. As mentioned, most of their stock can be bought elsewhere locally mainly for the same price (so avoiding a car journey for most)
I can imagine that the overseas import shops (Iceland) will go the same way eventually as they are getting so expensive.
