thanks rower. are the debit card transactions free at bankinter as well? we just got stung for over €70 euros in charges on our last visit of 6 weeks and around 90 transactions overall!!

I haven’t seen any charges for the limited times we have used it and we were told there are no charges. If you are interested in switching, you could pop into the Los Dolces branch to just confirm that and also check they will help in switching the gas and water before taking the plunge. i think it’s usual practice to phone (when asked) though, as they had the utility contact numbers in a hand written branch book, Her desk was immediately on the right hand side as you walk through the doors.

When we left Sabadell we were paying 35 Euros a quarter and transaction charges for some debit card use. Sabadell  did actually say you were allowed a certain number of free debit card uses each quarter, and you pay 80 cents per transaction after that. I think it may have been 8 free, but not 100% on that.

Hi. I have recently bought in the area. I have not opened a bank account but instead use a Revolut MasterCard. You preload it with sterling and then exchange it when it suits you - or when the rate rises if you keep an eye on it. As you would expect I am charged for cash withdrawals but not for spending in the card. I have managed to set up direct debits on it too. So far it works for me!

Im also at the end of my tether with Sabadell. So thinking of using my starling account for direct debit function, and my TransferWise account for my cashpoint function (though need to consider only 200 euros per month allowed without charges, via their basic free account).

I am in the same position with Sabadell.  I am also unhappy with the attitude of some of the staff.  In Playa Flamenca the assistant was very brash when I asked about closing the account.  Mine was opened by the lawyer who represented me buying my property and I was not aware that she opened it in Marbella and I am unable to close it at any other branch.  Well this is what the assistant told me not in a very nice manner saying he 'do not know', a number of times, how mine can be closed and to get in touch with the branch where my account was opened.  His attitude was very dismissive.  I am going to open an account with Cajamar based in Torrevieja if the information I was given is correct.  There are no fees as long as all your transactions are carried out online.  I am not aware what it costs to do any business in the bank but I only pay my non resident tax in the branch.  I believe the debit card is free for the first year and 15 euros per year thereafter.  You can withdraw cash 4 times a year from other ATM machines and it is free to withdraw from their own although the nearest is Torrevieja.  The name of the account is Wefferent.

Our Aborgado opened our Sabadell account in the Cost Del Sol as well. We bought a property here and went into the La Zenia branch and asked for them to arrange for it to be transferred to that branch.  They did this within a week, without charge. May be worth a trip to the LaZenia branch and getting them to transfer Your Marbella account over. Then close it when the transfer has been done.

I was told in the Playa Flamenca branch shortly after I found out that transferring it wasnt possible. They have been extremely unhelpful. I might try the La Zenia branch. Thank you for the info.

I also use Sabadell and find them no trouble since I changed to the the account with no fees if you pay in €700 a month.

I do understand the charges as I had that shock initially but went into see them and all was resolved. I also returned the additional cards with them and got refunded with no problems.

The App is straight forward and ever so easy to understand.

However......... I like the the idea of that Starling bank that Pete suggested. I'm going to open one today and just hope they dont change the rules down the line.

The power of a forum is great.

Thanks all.

good to hear.

out of interest le bee, what documents do you need with you when you switch and what are their account charges and debit card charges. the branch at los dolces is my local one as well so i would be looking to make this move also.

did you need to go into sabadell or did bankinter handle everything at their end?

much appreciated.
