New Satellite dish or cable - options?

Hi, we have recently bought a house in Villamartin (Florida Golf). We have a huge satellite dish which takes up quite a lot of space on the roof terrace (and, of course, it's in the part that gets the most sun).

Looking around I see that lots of other houses with smaller dishes high up on poles (often made of wire mesh). Do we need such a large dish in order to get UK TV stations or has technology moved on? Are these smaller dishes only suitable for Spanish stations? And what would it cost to replace the existing dish?

What are the other options available? e.g. cable. We only use it as a holiday home but would also like decent internet access when we're there. Does this make cable a better overall package?

It would be good to get our roof terrace back. Any help/advice would be very welcome. Thanks

The "wire mesh" aerial are probably some form of rebroadcasting system in the area. In otherwords, someone has a dish that they receive the signals, and are rebroadcasting them to clients on their own little transmission system. The same can also be said for community cable systems. Offical cable operators like Ono, will not have any UK channels on them, as they will only be offically lisenced to carry Spanish channels. Usually the quality of these systems is not as good as direct from the satellites.

Thanks. So it looks like I need to stick with the dish - do I need to stick with the large satellite dish (I would guess it's about 5 ft diameter) or can I upgrade to something more modern (and smaller)?

Otherwise I'll see if there's any way to reposition it so that it doesn't take up half of the sun terrace.

Hi give Satellite T.V. from Arcadia a call, at the moment we (rent) spend the Winter at Torre de la Horadada they have done work for us there and they were good and reasonably priced.

Hi,

Possibly worth mentioning. Established companies do not use mobile numbers and ymail / gmail / hotmail addresses. It is very easy for a company (individual) to disappear if problems, which unfortunately does happen. For any works (not just TV) recommend checking multiple local forums for opinions. I

We are a local established company dealing in TV for expats for over 10 years. We have recommendations on local forums and will happily forward comments, if required.

A satellite dish is the most economical long term solution and the only real original format service available in Spain for UK content. A minimum dish size required locally is 1.4 metres and there are different dish types available and not all perform the same. A superior offset 1.4 for example fully fitted with a single cable run would be €299, dishes are also available which offer greater stability for multiple connections or longer cable runs. No subscriptions for FTA TV and Sky an option.

IPTV services including monthly 'pay as you go' type systems are also available and offer premium type content if required. Internet speeds usually of a stable 2Mps for SD and 4-5Mbps for HD. Main differences is IPTV offers a few additional functions such as catch up TV and video on demand - which the satellite does not in Spain.
