The vast majority of travel insurance policies, DO NOT cover you if the govt advice is not to travel, which is currently the case for Spain. So, you either take the risk and go (which we did) or hunt around for a policy that may cover you. I believe they do exist, but are expensive and make sure ...

...you read the small print very carefully.

Not for everyone I’m sure, but if you are reasonably fit and healthy I would take the risk.

Thanks ,you have confirmed what we thought and we respect the risk you have taken. What a risk really even if fit and healthy but one we would not take. We have shopped around but its is virtually impossible to get Insurance cover. Ryanair use AXA, and yes read the small print as it will not cover if against FCO advice ugh! Like many others we will just have to wait until the FCO open up the air bridges again ,when ,who knows?!

If you buy stay sure travel insurance you can buy an add  on  for £5 which gives  you travel insurance even against FCO advice. It will cover everything except covid. We have spoken directly with them to confirm this and have purchased their insurance. I believe that your EHIC will cover you fir emergency hospital treatment too. Hope this helps

My wife and I have just purchased the same add on to our existing policy with Staysure. They also upgraded our existing policy for free covering Covid-19. We have decided to fly out to Spain in a few weeks time but to be honest, if we didn’t have this new cover we would not have taken the risk.

Hi guys

I have just checked this policy and even with the add on, it appears that you are only covered pre travel and not whilst travelling.

We drove down to Moraira from the UK thIs week with no problem.  There were no checks at all and we drove straight through the border between France and Spain.  Feel very safe here as it is quiet and most people are being sensible (not like the UK).  Most places are open but relatively quiet. We feel much safer here than in the UK.  We are retired so no problem to quarantine on our return (we were almost doing that anyway before we came).  The news makes both Spain and France sound awful but if you are sensible you should be fine.  Much rather be here in the sunshine sitting round the pool than back in the UK.

Hi all

I have just checked and Jet 2 appear to offer travel insurance that covers you even if the FCO advises against all non essential travel.

Hope this helps

Chris

Good morning Folks

I would like to correct a statement I made about our travel insurance policy with Staysure. I had a long talk yesterday with the agent of Staysure about travelling to Spain at this present time. The lady confirmed that any of their travel policies even though it has been upgraded to include COVID-19 cover and paying a small sum extra to travel to a country against FCO advise.

The lady confirmed 100% that their policies would be invalid if someone travels to a country against FCO advice, I explained that the wording on the Staysure policy is confusing and misleading but she explained that all customers should read the small print.

Whilst Spain sounds very inviting at present we have decided to cancel our intending visit until the FCO lifts restrictions. People will have a different view from us but we wouldn’t want to take ill in Spain without full insurance cover.

Stay safe people.

Regards

Jim

Hello Jim, all,

We have just bought the Staysure Travel and Medical Insurance following positive posts from others. It does not cover Covid (we do not think any insurance company does if you travel to France, Spain against FCO advice), but with the add on it covers all other existing health conditions and the usual cover for  accidents, illnesses, possessions etc. Our previous one would not cover anything so policy cancelled! We are still talking about a possible road trip soon in our new camper via Eurotunnel with limited contact on the journey to our house in Castalla, Province of Alicante area .The area is in the mountains and has v low levels of Covid infections. However the way it is going here in the UK the biggest problem could be border closures again?! I wonder when the UK Government will review these air bridges as soon we will all be at the same levels ugh!?
