Hi John,

I have seen a lot of comments about the UK restrictions being lax and about people ignoring them. Well my experience has been that the vast majority of the population have followed the lockdown rules for the past 10 weeks or so and the restrictions have been in ...

...line with what many other countries have imposed. The media like to highlight the idiots who ignore the government guidelines, but these are by far the minority. I am in living in Lincolnshire, all my neighbours and friends have been following the rules. We speak with family in London, Horsham and the North East of England and  they all report the same.

In recent days there seems to be a general increase in people out and about but that is mostly due to the relaxation that occurred in the middle of May to allow people to travel further and do activities like golf, fishing, tennis.

If anyone has the impression that the UK in general have been ignoring the restrictions then they are wrong, they have been followed remarkably well on the whole.

Rgds,

Aitch.

We too live in Lincolnshire, have been working from home for the last ten weeks , but we both are back to work Monday, I am back to school and my husband manufacturing. All in our village have abided by the rules. We have a second home in Villamartin and are desperate to get back we have had two holidays cancelled. I completely understand the residents of Spain worry about visitors to the coast we will have to hope  that the quarantine rules are relaxed at both ends

There is a lot of people knocking the UK, but, do you think the rest of Europe and other countries are any better. The only other country that had a real lockdown was Italy and parts of China. Was there any riots in the UK like Belgium. Any burning of police vehicles,No. I do think it will be too early for other countries to be allowed into Spain. After all the hard work that has been done to get us where we are today. On the other hand, I can see that the government are trying to get the economy moving. But, the thing is,what price is life?

Narrow mindedness get you know where. On a personal note I’ve done exactly as you have  done in Spain to protect my family. We are not all as you think we are.

Narrow minded!!!! my mind and eyes are wide open to what will happen it's the people like race horses wearing blinkers so they can't or don't want to see what's going off around them

Agreed.  I care for my safety like you care for yours, pretty obvious actually.  Works both ways - I don’t want you to infect me either !  If, when I return believe me I shall be giving you all a wide berth..

I am one of the ‘shielded’ - and observe the rules and advice to protect myself and others.

However, the world’s economy needs to restart at some point doesn’t it.

Have a safe, enjoyable day.

My opinion is that this situation is out of our hands and will be decided by the powers that be. Not everyone will abide by the rules as we have seen from  Some Spanish citizens recently.

Stay safe.

Thanks,

Kevin

I appreciate and understand all that you say.   Currently my feet are well and truly planted on English soil and I am not going anywhere soon; least of all Spain !

Covid-19 is circulating the world except Antarctica. And now it is virulent in India and South America - God help these people.  The virus is not going away anytime soon, although it will reduce or even mutate - it’s a real unknown.  We have no alternative but to live with the virus until a vaccine is found (another subject!!).

The dangers are absolutely clear and understood by billions; although a proportion of citizens continue to flout / ignore rules/advice endangering populations.

So; lockdown rules in their various guises are gradually being eased country by country. Therefore, we all need to be vigilant each moment of every day, this is the reality for us all.  Going forward we need to balance a return to quasi normality both socially and economically.  It’s got to start sometime - with caution of course.

Personally I would prefer a much heavier lockdown in the UK but regrettably,  I am unable to influence the Government or their Advisors. The latest easing of the lockdown in the UK starting Monday is my worse nightmare.

So; I’m done going round in circles....

...or as Forest Gump famously once said.. “that’s all I have  to say about that..’

Stay safe...

Emm.. I'm i missing something here?..From the discussions you would assume that Spain was Covid free and  if this was the case then I could maybe understand the furore surrounding open border etc .. The fact is almost 28000 souls have perished and the tit for tat as regards which country had toughest lockdown is pathetic and would be laughable under less tragic circumstances.Furtheremore the snobbery and comments regarding Benidorm are staggering..It's not my cup of tea(or should I say lager as there seems to be a particular stigma surrounding this form of alcohol?!)but I have no problem seeing people enjoy themselves..Having lived here for a while now I dont see a huge difference between the behaviour of 'the hoardes' and the wine swinging 50+ year old expats who have an opinion(only theirs is right) about everything.

Have you been reading the comments or just registering the bit you want to!!!! knowone is saying people cannot visit there homes or visit benidorm and there's no snobbery what I can read and knowone is saying spain is covid free 2 deaths registered in spain yesterday as opposed to 324 uk  664 new cases in spain as opposed to 2100 uk I'm personally worried that a full lockdown as opposed to a UK lockdown when the draw bridge is lowered spanish figures equally stay lowered and for you information under normal circumstances I like a good jolly up but if you wasn't aware this virus is contagious and a country that's not letting anyone in unless you do a 14 day isolation why let them out the country in the first place ? Spain needs tourism but not at human cost
