Anyone living in Spain have most assuredly experienced a prison like life for the past 10 weeks. Thankfully it was not during the hot season so was probably bearable.

The Spanish authorities treated you the same as those in the midst of the pandemic in Madrid/ Barcelona. In my view, you could have had a more lenient lockdown and less fines....

...

Yes, our lockdown in N.I. and the mainland has been more civilised but we have been staying in our homes and adhering to the guidelines.

The comments made about people descending into parks and beaches are understandable. Some folk live in small homes out no outdoor space. I saw where a single father lived in a one bedroom apartment with his 2 little boys at the top of a building. You have 3 people sharing a home who can’t leave for their work in the morning but all 3 have to carry on doing their job from their bedroom in a very small one at that.

We must not judge others. We must learn to understand that many are suffering from depression and anxieties. Where do you think all these”hoards” and “yobs” are going to get the money to descend on Spain?  Many are jobless and could soon be homeless. reading these posts has made me wonder if I want to return to our house in Torrevieja this year or ever. It’s horrible to hear fellow brits animosity towards people they rubbed shoulders with in the past.
iNone of us wants to go through lockdown again but it’s a great deal easier to do so here at home. It is civilised. We are allowed out to walk and people move onto the road or cross over when passing and always have a few pleasant words of conversation when doing so. I am in absolutely No Rush to get over to Spain and have received your messages loud and clear. Stay Home.  Ok.
But remember, if people do as you are telling them, you won’t have so many lovely shops or restaurants to enjoy as they will soon close down. Property values will collapse as nobody will wish to buy them. Other countries will become the new place to go to and they will give a warmer welcome to prospective buyers and spenders.

We will take our holidays locally and we welcomed with open arms.

Life could become a lot simpler for all of us. The unfortunate thing is that you seem to have many “yobs” living near you according to the newspaper reports.

Please think before posting distressing messages. 2 weeks ago I was looking forward to flying over to Spain at the start of September but all the comments posted have strangely made me realise that I am not too keen anymore.

It might interest you to know that people over here have no desire to contract coronavirus either.

Well put, GrannyRose. It’s nice to hear a voice of reason. Keep well, and I am sure that you will be welcomed by many when you return. Things have to move on, and it will be difficult for us when the citizens of Madrid come here for the August bank holiday, we will all just have to be very careful but continue to enjoy life.

Hi Ray,

Of course I have no objection to the Madrileños coming here. As you live inland you would not perhaps understand how many come to their holiday homes in August. They are just as entitled to be here as anybody else. However, being a city, they have unfortunately had a very high incidence of the virus, so are just as likely to bring it with them as visitors from U.K., Sweden, Germany etc. La Zenia Boulevard is usually swarming with people that particular weekend, and that is when I won’t be going out for sure. Absolutely no offence to the Spanish, and I am fully aware it is their country, thanks! If I was anti Spanish I would not have chosen to live here. 😎

Ray, I know what I am, the same as YOU, an immigrant. Spanish Covid is no safer than from elsewhere. Buenas tardes.

Ray, Why on earth did you say such a thing to a fellow member?  Anyone would be horrified to witness such dreadful behaviour but why you would suggest that anyone from the UK is to blame is grossly unfair. I have never seen or even heard of fighting on a beach  and am as appalled as you are But your comment was below the belt. Sorry if you are annoyed with my message but if that message had been pointed at me, I would have been furious.

Please.   No more jibes, it is unkind and unnecessary.

Thank you for explaining RayD.

I hope your prediction of similar anti social behaviour in Spain is unfounded.

It saddens me to hear that people behave in such an undignified way but it doesn’t surprise me really. If parents are incapable of teaching their children right from wrong, I believe the onus falls on our schools to do the needful. My mother spent her life teaching us good manners, I followed suit with my children and now, they are doing the same with their’s.   I feel for children who have never received guidance from their mother or father, People years ago were proud to teach their children everything they would need to go out into the world but many today are sadly, too busy or simply just don’t care and others who were never taught, don’t know how to.... very sad but true I am afraid

Thank you Nicola.

Yes, this post has been a popular one!

A lot of people who are frightened that visitors will bring the virus with them   And

A lot of people who do not reside permanently in Spain but a great many months/ weeks there in normal times. These people live in the UK or  Ireland , they too have self isolated and now believe that they may be able to return to their second home.

And back to you good people in Spain.... You would prefer that we did not travel to Spain but remain at home.

We aren’t the problem !  We are all of a similar mind to yourselves  we most certainly do not wish to catch coronavirus now or ever.

The next consideration.. other people will visit from other countries and from within Spain. These people do not want to catch coronavirus either but it is possible that the virus will arrive on holiday with some or many if they visitors.

What can you do to prevent endangering yourselves?

1. Demand that the Spanish government stops people coming into the country or going any further than 30kms from their permanent residence.

2. Remain in self isolation for the best part of the summer.

3. Throw your hands up in the sir and hope for the best

I probably favour no.1

Realistically, nobody should be travelling around the country in great numbers. I also think that the people from Madrid should only be allowed to stay in the coast for no more than 2 weeks allowing ALL residents to stay at home and self isolate While they are enjoying their 2 week holiday

Everywhere should be deep cleaned immediately after they return to the hinterland.

Sadly, I cannot see this happening.  Businesses are in dire financial trouble and the economy must be jump started as soon as possible. The dreadful thing is wearing a mask in the heat is abhorrent. In principle, it’s a good idea but in practice, it’s unthinkable  So, what do you do to stop yourself from catching the virus apart from staying home?  Pray that the intense heat kills the spread of it.  Continue washing your hands and not touching door knobs etc., vigilance is called for .

That’s the only advice I can offer.   Life has to go on and there is little or nothing that any of us can do but wait to see if the RATE keeps dropping which will offer some hope.

Change of subject.    We are to get rain next week!  Rain, something we haven’t seen for so long now. We are in for a real wake up call!  Looking out of my window , it’s like another world.

Table and chairs in the middle of the lawn, more chairs strategically set out to catch the sun from early morning until late evening   Parasol up to offer protection.  Shrubs and plants all in bloom, hanging baskets looking glorious, everything looks wonderful. I had no idea how beautiful our garden was as we abandoned it for months on end to go to Spain every year. If we decide not to travel over this year, we won’t be crying unless of course it rains and rains and rains then we will remember why we love Spain so much.

Take care everyone. Look forward to hearing from you all when we find a new and interesting topic
