We always use gold car never had a problem but now looking at buying our own car

I have my own car in Spain but I used the hire companies as a cheap taxi and just leave it at my hiuse until its fime to go back.

As I'm hoping to get out more I will be looking at leaving my car at the airport moving forward.

All 31/12  pending of course!

Thanks Tina, we too, have returned to UK and are now self isolating.  It was funny, and ironic, to see so many people leaving the airport to get cars, all still happily wearing theirs!

What wasn't funny was finding my car damaged in the car park, no note on the windscreen, and 5 mins later getting an email from Wiber car rental in Alicante saying the car had a scratch on the door, €220 taken off my deposit.  This, after they sent me 27 photos of damage already on the car...

.... Methinks they don't bother doing the repairs, just take the money.  Actually, I think I will post this bit on the Forum as a new post, for information.

DID YOU PAY CREDIT CARD OR DEBIT CARD ? IF C/C CHALLENGE THEM - DID YOU TAKE PHOTOS OF WHEN YOU GOT CAR AND RETURNED IT ? ........   I DID-  GOLDCAR TRIED TO SCAM ME FOR £1,100-00 CLAIMING I DENTED THE BONNET, I ASKED FOR PHOTOS N THEY SENT ME 2 OF THE REAR BUMPER !!!  GOLDCAR ARE SCAMMERS

Yes ,  I paid by CC, and no, I didn't take any photos.  They provided me with 27 of damage already on the car.  I never noticed any further damage during our stay, and I had to leave the car in Out of Hours drop off, as mentioned.

My insurance through Ryanair will cover the costs, except the Out of Hours charge.   It's just the damn principle....

And, I used Goldcar last Sept.  They gave us a knackered old Golf with a dodgy gearbox.

They're all CHARLATANS

Ask them for photos of the damage as it's probably invented, we haven't hired a car since, just too much hassle Good Luck 😉

When collecting hire car. Always take your time to inspect each panel plus wheels and windows. Take photos of any damage. All wheels inspect tyres plus make sure all lights work. Inspect interior check you have high vis jackets plus warning triangle . DON'T RUSH this could take 30 mins. Start engine check warning lights. If not happy REJECT CAR
