Hi Chris

I am a second home owner in Spain and can genuinely feel your pain. We've had 4 trips cancelled this year with massive disappointment to us and our children.

We have paid all our urbanisation fees, sums, internet, solicitors fees and maintenance costs aswell like you and massively frustrated at not being able to get there.

Yes, obvious that our lives matter more and I'm sure your conscious of that so Eleninspain needn't have been so flippant in that respect.  However it is difficult getting the tests done 72 hours prior to entering Spain which is why weve totally written off all of this year and have rebooked for next Easter.  Think we will still have problems even then. Bearing in mind also that without us owning properties and paying in to the system expects there would see a totally different side of permanent living in Spain. We have made Spain what it is economically over many years.  I used to live there myself for many years and took my hat off to all second holiday home owners and their contributions in to Spain, enabling the Spanish to float and not sink.

Hope you can successfully resolve your situation but stay safe whilst doing so.

hi alic65,

we are also 2nd home owners and make all the contributions you stated,i would like to mention a few things one which might help.

you can as of today get the pcr test required for entry into spain at gatwick airport for £60 per person, because of the time it takes to test the sample you need to go at least 2 days prior to your flight ,returning all being well with certificate and safely on to spain.

its a lovely website site this but feel that so many people have stopped helping the original poster and instead you get opinions and then disagreements without the help the original poster asked for..

i dont believe that anyone would willingly travel anywhere with covid and infect the  population...

strangely thou if you drive to spain theres no pcr test required...

kind regards

terry

I have paid into the British tax system since I was 15 yrs old ( when I left school ) and luckily for me was never out of work so if the British government tried to stop my pension by virtue of where I want to live I would take them to court. A pension is not theirs to stop it is something that y...

...ou and hopefully your employer have paid into all of your working life, it isnt a benefit.

Great point but I’m Sorry , the U.K. government says it IS a benefit.    They can do whatever they like with Pensions.      They could very well stop paying Non Residents , and why wouldn’t they?  By my reckoning lol 🙄. 300,000 pensions at even £600 a month leaving the U.K.=  £180,000,000 a Month!  Even if all pensioners returned to U.K. they wouldn’t cost that a month in health care burden and the U.K. wouldnt be sending the yearly health care contribution to Spain either.  The Government will be looking to make up for all the money Covid has cost so it’s anyone’s guess! . You can play with the figures, more or less pensioners or more or less money paid to them but it’s a ball park. Of course Spain should be looking at this figure too as an income and (dropping with every death). encouraging more to leave U.K. and make it easier lol.     I had a contract with the “Goverment “ since leaving school at 16. I paid in and worked too but just as I’m about to CLAIM my pension, they said NO, You must wait another 6 YEARS !   They are hoping I die first so I don’t think you’d win in court I’m afraid 😎. Check out the WASPI women.    So all you residents in Spain who are so pleased at getting in will just have to wait and hope 😊.     Maybe it hasn’t crossed BoJo’s mind.  Yet.

Yes I realise the situation on standing orders and paying fees/taxes whilst I am not getting any use from my (2nd) home in Spain. I have owned for a few years now and have paid many thousands of Euros. I never mentioned nor asked for a rebate but now you mention it it would be a fair system!

Spain,  fair.  lol.

Not everyone flys.   The cost of tests varies wildly and is far too expensive , bandwagon comes to mind.    What happens , as  it does so many times in Winter,  ferries are cancelled the day before, or even off loaded at the last minute!  and a test has to be redone.   That’s a nightmare and it will happen. It is creating so many difficulties for people with 2nd homes and pets.

Hi Terry,

I agree with everything you've said. I normally travel by ferry and drive from Santander. Like Chris, I've had massive disappointment at not getting over to Spain. I have dogs that now come in to equation too and with new regs I'm getting obstacles put in our way from all directions.  With 3 of us needing the test each time and everything else it's making it nion impossible to travel there. Lots of my neighbours and friends on our urbanisation are all in same predicament.

Its 15 months now since I've been able to be there and see state of my property.

I feel for all second home owners at this particular time.

Thank you to all the genuine people including yourself for valid info.

Your absolutely right though there are some people on here that just think of themselves.

Stay safe everyone, keep smiling,

Until we meet again.

Totally agree L181sky

Ferries are also required to get us tested within the 72 hour time frame too. We sleep over on ferry. Very sceptical about how this will work at Easter if at all.

Costly, stressful and as I said almost nion impossible for us now I think. We always take our dogs but after January they have to be vaccinated before each journey, then tested upon return leg and also before each journey thereafter.  Difficult as we normally travel, April, May, July and October there isn't enough turn around time for all vaccines.

I think more and more second home owners will be forced out of Spain and have to sell up.

Very sad times coupled up with all of the Covid situation and loss of loved ones.

Exactly and it’s not just the time of a short hop flight it’s two nights sometimes .   My house is on the market already.   I don’t think they have to be vaccinated before every trip though.  As long as their vacs are up to date.  They will need an extra piece of paper though to enter Spain etc  Health cert. but the U.K. says things are just to stay the same for re entry into the U.K.  wormer as per usual. If you have a link I’d be glad to read about it  as this is what I’ve been told.
It all puts you off going at all. We are booked Portsmouth Bilbao on the new ship 19th Jan.  I dread a test then cancellation I am so sure it will happen too.   Once we decided Not to go for residencia it was like a weight off our minds and felt wonderful. Then we could see Spain or the EU and all the red tape as a living hell.

Hi alic65,

perhaps you might look at the euro tunnel and then through france, no test needed but appreciate its a long drive(some say with beautiful scenery).

we are trying to get over via easyjet in december, we also have had  numerous cancelled flights etc,but luckily our urb keep an eye out.

hope all gets back to normal soon (vaccine).

thank you for your kind words and safe journeys to all...

I have been thinking driving over for a long while now and the lack of covid testing fees might well be a good reason to try it. Will be a good experience too. If taking a vaccine is required for flying then I will drive 100% (as I'll never take their vaccine) Then I can bring my dog over too!

France could bring tests in tomorrow. We ferried in Feb Portsmouth to Le Harve and it was a lovely run.  Stayed at Hossegor, lovely , then Just south of at Madrid at a dog friendly , Then down to Mojacar  France for us was very peaceful and civilised to drive in.  On crossing the border we knew we were in Spain right away, wacky races again 🙈. I would do that again.
