Hello,

I think, thankfully that the spanish government are making saving lives a priority over saving tourism/business's at this moment  and in my opinion that is exactly how I want it to be. There is always another Christmas & New Year..... but not another life !!

I think many people who live here would agree with me, but people who want to come for a holiday visit won't!

Cheers

Elinspain

Totally agree, there will be other Xmas etc but not another life. This selfishness of some people contributed to the increase cases of this deadly virus! I’m sure lots of people with holiday homes there would rather be there but saving lives does matter over economy. Businesses can restart but your love one life cannot!!

hi alic65,

we are also 2nd home owners and make all the contributions you stated,i would like to mention a few things one which might help.

you can as of today get the pcr test required for entry into spain at gatwick airport for £60 per person, because of the time it takes to test the sample you need to go at least 2 days prior to your flight ,returning all being well with certificate and safely on to spain.

its a lovely website site this but feel that so many people have stopped helping the original poster and instead you get opinions and then disagreements without the help the original poster asked for..

i dont believe that anyone would willingly travel anywhere with covid and infect the  population...

strangely thou if you drive to spain theres no pcr test required...

kind regards

terry

If you drive you would need a PCR test to enter France according to French Covid site and at present you cannot drive through France due to moveement restrictions from their lockdown

I am with you on this as lives must come first but hospitals need hard cash to function. Spain's economy is predicted to crash by 12.5% so I am left wondering how the health system in Spain and thus the health of its people will be able to remain as you expect?

Saving lives is very expensive and a well funded economy is vital to keep this going.

Totally agree L181sky

Ferries are also required to get us tested within the 72 hour time frame too. We sleep over on ferry. Very sceptical about how this will work at Easter if at all.

Costly, stressful and as I said almost nion impossible for us now I think. We always take our dogs but after January they have to be vaccinated before each journey, then tested upon return leg and also before each journey thereafter.  Difficult as we normally travel, April, May, July and October there isn't enough turn around time for all vaccines.

I think more and more second home owners will be forced out of Spain and have to sell up.

Very sad times coupled up with all of the Covid situation and loss of loved ones.

Hello Alice

I am too very disappointed as I drive or ferry to Spain for a couple months usually January to end March. However, brexit has scuppered me going in January because I would need four months after my dogs injections before I could travel. Should have had them done early sept but didn’t realise. Now I can only go before 31Dec. with the usual pet passports. That would be ok but now Covid takes priority I don’t know whether to try and get the 72 hr test before and go for the tunnel instead of trying to get pet friendly cabin 2 weeks before.
The ferry would be my first choice. Maybe they might jump on the bandwagon and do testing.

cheers

Hi. Laraine, can I ask why four months.  Have you checked with your vet?   Have you travelled with your dog before ?  As far as I was told the four months is only for first time vaccinations for rabies etc.and the four months is for the titre blood tests.  If your vacs are up to date it’s travel as normal with a health certificate.     Here is what I found just now on the Govt site.
Before your dog, cat or ferret can travel to the EU for the FIRST TIME after 1 January 2021, you’ll need to take the following steps.

  1. You must have your dog, cat or ferret microchipped.

  2. Vaccinate your dog, cat or ferret against rabies - your pet must be at least 12 weeks old before it can be vaccinated.

  3. Your pet must have a blood sample taken at least 30 days after its primary rabies vaccination (from a current series of vaccinations). Your vet may recommend a booster rabies vaccination before this test.

  4. Your pet’s blood sample will be sent to an EU-approved blood testing laboratory.

  5. Wait 3 months from the date the successful blood sample was taken before you can travel.

  6. The vet must give you a copy of the test results and enter the day the blood sample was taken in an animal health certificate (AHC).

You will not be able to travel with your pet if you have not completed these steps.

If the blood test result is not successful, you’ll need a repeat vaccination and another blood test taken at least 30 days after the repeat vaccination.

Find out more about rabies vaccination boosters and blood tests.

As long as you keep your pet’s rabies vaccinations up to date, you will not need to get repeat blood tests for repeat trips to the EU.

Get an animal health certificate (AHC)

You must also take your pet to your vet no more than 10 days before travel to get an AHC. (The AHC needs to be signed by an official vet. Check with your vet that they can issue AHCs for pets.)

You must take proof of:

  • your pet’s microchipping date
  • your pet’s vaccination history
  • a successful rabies antibody blood test result

Your pet’s AHC will be valid for:

  • 10 days after the date of issue for entry into the EU
  • onward travel within the EU for 4 months after the date of issue
  • re-entry to Great Britain for 4 months after the date of issue

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Gary, recently I have been ignoring your extreme anti Covid anti Vax anti Spain and anti EU comments as something you share with your mates down the pub, but since you are now spreading them so heavily on this forum I feel it's time to respond.

You said in one of your posts that Spain is on track for a 12.5% contraction of her economy.

I would be very interested to hear where you got that from. Here is what the IMF said in their November 2020 report. I have truncated it to include the relevant parts.

"We conclude that Spain's financial problems due to Covid may not be as dire as originally forecast due to a strong third quarter.....

.....and Spain has been hit harder than most European economies with GDP 8.7% down on last year....."

Source:IMF

The Spanish government anticipates 7.2% growth in GDP for 2021 and the IMF agrees that is likely. Additionally Spain is part of EU27 who have agreed a financial recovery/support package for the southern European countries hardest hit by the pandemic. So, again I ask you where you got 12.5% from?

Forward holiday stay bookings for Benidorm 2021 are 40% up on pre Covid levels. Spain has not had a lockdown since the first one, not sure if you were aware of that? And one of the reasons that Spain is recovering well is that the population accept the mask wearing protocols, something I see little of in the news reports from the UK.

Isn't it enough for some people who voted Leave that they won? Why is it that so many who voted Leave to seem to want the EU to fail?

Meantime, I do think you should wind in your anti Covid and anti Vax opinions. Careless talk costs lives. Save it for your mates on Facebook perhaps?

Steve

I have locked this thread as unfortunately the minority are spoiling it for everyone else by posting misinformation.

This forum is not here to debate whether a serious pandemic disease is real or not, or how Bill Gates is a lizard who is going to put a microchip into a vaccine. People have sadly died during this pandemic because they believed what some lunatic has said on the internet. I will not allow this forum to harm others in this way and I will ban any members who are promoting misinformation and anti-vax content.
