Hi,

I can agree with you on the weeds. Most in the community keep their stretch clear in from of the property but the main roads are mostly very neglected. There are stretches along the roads and the canal pathways where the wild growth is the height of large bushes and undermining the ...

...tarmac. The longer they leave it the more expensive it is going to be to repair.

On a positive note, when we were over in June we discovered that the back road from Villamartin to San Miguel de Salinas had been repaired and resurfaced, so much better now.

Hello

I live one street from the beach and by the end of the day , it is a tip!    People park everywhere around here & leave all their rubbish by the car when they leave.

However during the night it is a hive of activity...... beach cleaning  machines come & go, basuras are all emptied, streets/roads are clean , pavement bins are emptied & bin liners replaced.  By morning it's clean & hygenic everywhere &ready to go for another day.

I chose to live near to the beach so I have no complaints--- at times, it's busy, noisy & dirty , but it's shortlived and the cleansing dept. certainly do their job very well at this time of the year

Cheers

So all the beach streets are cleaned but the areas like villamartin/ los dolces are neglected,  strange because the residents of the above pay there suma too , like you say they have the equipment!

It's worth noting that elsinspain lives in Torrevieja, whereas you (and I) live in Orihuela Costa. Different councils!

The rubbish and weeds in Orihuela Costa is nothing new. However, the frequency of the bins being emptied has decreased a lot this year. Garden waste should be collected on the same day each week, but has been left for months. Usually the end of July is when the workers have a blitz on rubbish and weeds, just in time for the city dwellers’ holidays in August. I have always thought that perhaps the Spanish homeowners might complain louder than us! The way people just dump stuff anywhere is a sign of the times. It was the same in the U.K. If you have a big cardboard box, how about flattening and folding it? Garden waste can be bagged up. Some people just compound the problem, and that just gives the council more excuses.

 Hi,

personally I don't think it is the councils fault, they empty the bins on a regular basis. People just dump all manner of rubbish by and around the bins rather than disposing if it properly, Not far from us there are a set of bins with no properties immediately next to them. You wil...

...l see old fridges, furniture, mattresses, erc. etc,, just about anything dumped there plus massive amounts of garden waste.

It is the people who in effect are fly-tipping that cause the problems. The amount of dumped waste gets worse when there are more visitors.

Aitch.

Spot on !!!

It’s like a recycling ctre near mine !

People are dumping everything around the bins and not even putting it in the bin ????

It's the local residents that are causing the problems with rubbish!!

I see from your own photo that the drinks cans, garden rubbish and black bag could have been put into the bin not 10 feet away!!

The local people want educating, not the council.

Steve

You are absolutely spot on. The sheer laziness and ignorance astounds me sometimes. I see glass bottles dumped in a plastic bag, yet a bottle bank is 40 yards up the road, cardboard boxes dumped near the general waste bins, yet a paper recycling bin is literally 10 yards away! And don't get me started on the dog shit.

Yes, it's the people.

As always.

I see from your location that you do not live in Orihuela Costa, you will be probably unaware of the pot holes in the road and the jungles growing at the kerbside. 100% the councils fault. There are folk who fly tip, there are also occasions when the bins are so full you can't get close to them f...

...or bags of rubbish. It's a disgrace.

Referring to a recent letter in the Costa Blanca News, one point made was that it’s little point in complaining in English and that we should do this in Spanish and send to Spanish News Media.                                        Clearly the rubbish situation is worse in the summer months. Overflowing bins of green and general waste just seems to be the norm, not to mention the roadside weeds and obliterated crossings.                                Orihuela Council are deliberately failing to acknowledge that 40 percent (?) of their Suma income comes from Orihuela Costa of which they allocate less than 10 percent (?) to us.

The attached photos are by no means an unusual site

We live around the corner from the Leroy Merlin Construction at the top of the hill and the council cleared away all the garden waste plus rubbish and actually swept it all, it looked lovely then within 3 hours somebody had dumped all their garden rubbish there again.

Sad state affairs,  is it legal to dump rubbish anywhere?   so they should in vest in mobile cameras and give out massive fines , which should then be spent on cleaning the area etc, such nice places being turned into slums , slightly over the top but it saddens me!
