No you can carry a good quality copy that you can cover.

This document is a legal title, the same as a DL entitles to drive. Copies are no equivalent an can be accepted or not.
You need to be able to prove your ID if challenged by someone in authority, there are numerous ways of doing that an original TIE being just one.
The MIDGT app provides a legally valid copy of your driving licence meaning that nothing more than your mobile phone need be carried.
