I have found out that Google maps is wrong which may be why many of the carriers cannot/will not deliver to my house.

The road that passes my house is labelled as PLAZA which it clearly is not. The plaza is about 50m away.

I have found a road name on a blue sign on and old house further up the road. I am not aware that anyone even knows it is there.

Is there a way of checking the street name is recognised by anyone and how can you get Google to update their map if it is?

My road only has about six houses on it and it runs for about 500m.  The post man, who comes once a week, knows where we are so he is not a problem, but it might cause confusion if I eventually change my address. I suppose I could add and extra line into it.

I'm afraid I can't help. But your situation is not unusual.

Another "feature" .... some streets have their nameplates in Catalan but google maps and satnavs use Spanish

I'd be more concerned about it being right on sat navs than Google, couriers and delivery folk are far more likely to use that than Google maps.

Sat nav is probably easier to report errors to, did it once myself when I found that they had Calle Topacio in Urb Benimar down as Calle Tobacio!

Thanks Kelvin, up here we occasionally get spellings in Valenciana  but that is generally not far removed from Castilian, so not a problem.

It's just that my Avenida can't be found.

I have yet to be convinced that Spanish carriers know what that is.

I have tried that and it hasn't worked.

I added the name of our road. It took two attempts to do it, but it now appears on Google Maps.

Unfortunately I can't remember how I did it. Probably the three bars menu icon and then either add a missing place or send feedback.

Thanks Jim,

I'll have a go at that but I need to be certain of the correct name for the road first. A visit to the ayuntimento may be on the agenda.

What address is on your padrón?

Depending on which neighbour I talk to, or the cartera, our road has four different names.

In the early days when we first went for our padrón, the lady in the town hall dug out the area map, we pointed out which house it was, and she issued the padrón in the street name on her map.

Mind you, some years later when a guy from Orihuela council called to fit our official blue number plate, he said the padrón address wasn't correct.

I think it's all part of a plot so we don't get our parcels.

There is not much help for us mere mortals when even the 'authorities' can't make up their minds.

As I have said many times before, this place is a shambles. But what would we have to moan about if all was perfect?

I think the main problem is the targets that delivery companies impose on their drivers and the rest is down to the driver's mood on the day. We've been told our address is wrong, we weren't in and even that things had been delivered (not). Some, refusing to accept the address was indeed correct have simply refused to try to deliver so we have had to collect from their depot, other companies won't even follow GPS or full directions in Spanish but others simply turn up with no directions or anything. Pot luck I'm afraid.
