Hello All, I know there are copious amounts of info on banks so please forgive me if this question has been answered and I've missed it.  Coming over to Spain in September to start our new Spanish life. Wanted to get going with TIE as soon as we arrive. I understand I need to show funds in Spanish bank account for 3 months as one of the conditions, so here's the question, any recommendations on spanish banks we could set up online in UK so I can get funds in it ASAP? Many thanks in advance for any information. Regards, Tracy

Hi you cannot set up a Spanish bank account online you have to go to the bank with your nie and passport in person.

Thank you for your response, I thought there were a couple of banks who offered this service, BBVA for example?

Not sure...I'm in the process of opening up a Spanish account online from the UK. Everything is now in place, but I have had to arrange an appointment to finalise it all in person at my local Spanish branch. That is with Sabadell.

Our solicitor (abogado) made an appointment for us to open a bank account once in spain. We didn't have our NIE so only showed passports and a utility bill from the UK. This was with Sabadell - non resident account to start with - and the account was live the same day. Debit cards took a few days to arrive but unfortunately were sent to the uk! We've ordered new ones to be collected from Banco Sabadell so you might want to stress that point.

Thank you for your response, I will look into that. I am happy to open account in Spain but just wanted to open and get funds in quickly for residency (TIE) purposes. Thank you for taking the time to respond. Regards Tracy

Hi Tracy20

It’s worth bearing in mind that it’s advisable to open an account, at whichever bank, at a branch that will be local to you. If, at a later date, you wish to close/change, you need to present yourself. You cannot do it remotely 🤪🥂
