Anyone know what steps / how one obtains a Shotgun License in Spain.

Visited my local Armoria, (gun shop), but sadly failed to communicate sufficiently well to get to an answer. First step, I was told, is to get a Hunting License but as I only want to kill little round clay discs that seems unnecessary for me.

thanks

All the info you need if you understand Spanish is here from the hunting website:

Otherwise, ask the Guardia Civil, they can give you all the info.

you need an "E" licence. For an E licence you don't officially need a hunting permit, but mine was declined for not having one. I know of several Spaniards who had the same problem. It's simpler just to present one.

Do you have an English or EU FAC at the moment?

Thanks Both,

I´ll try the Guardia in Xativa.

I don't have a UK license as while actually a UK national I´m an ex USA resident where I needed absolutely nothing to cover my shotguns and 9mm semi auto pistol.

appreciate the help.

cheers

Myra, Dazz; thanks so much for the information. The JyS site is particularly informative but does make it pretty clear to me that I primary stumbling block is going to be language. My Spanish is simply not good enough to deal with the theory test. Do you happen to know if the questions change? And are they downloadable prior to exam so that I could translate, work out correct answers and then memorise the Spanish answer?

thanks

yes, you can download the questions and answers here: Programa de conocimientos de la prueba teórica, licencias D, E y AEM (guardiacivil.es). If you open the link in google chrome it will automatically translate it to English, open the PDF file, then click the download button at the top once it's opened. The pdf files are in Spanish, so you'll need to run them through google translate or similar.

The translation isn't perfect, but if you know a bolt from a cartridge it's managable. From memory they randomly choose 20 questions from the list.

You have to try to learn the Spanish word for each part. It helped that I used to use a club that is mainly Spanish and used by lots of guardia, they were very helpful teaching me but amused at my crap pronunciation :)

If you are only clay pigeon shooting is there nowhere locally that does it on a day permit instead of going through the hassle of a licence?

Dazz,

Many thanks.

I will try that route and post updates here so all can follow my progress. Really appreciate the help.

Cheers

Greg
