I have little personal knowledge of private healthcare systems here as we are registered with the National Spanish healthcare system. But I have heard people speak very highly of Assisa, as well of course of Sanitas which is the Spanish version of one of the best UK private insurers, BUPA.
However, whilst there may be a very small allowance towards prescriptions, ( not of course including any necessary medications prescribed during a hospital stay which would be included in cover), it is not usual for any private insurer to cover prescription charges. As for costs, much depends upon your age and any previous conditions, long term medications etc.
Your best solution is to make enquiries of the companies. There is also an international outfit called DKV whom I believe originate in Germany but operate here and of whom users speak highly.
