Here are a couple of websites that may have some helpful information for you.
Citizens Advice Bureau Spain for bureaucratic stuff, and
N332 for anything to do with driving in Spain. The website, and their Facebook page, is for English speaking people and the website has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code on it. Both sites are run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil.

If you ask direct questions you are more likely to get answers from people knowledgeable about that area , asking for 'pointers' is a bit vague.
