Hi

We are staying in alicante from tomorrow for 4 days. We are thinking of travelling up to Denia by public transport. I have read that there is no train service but you can go by tram. is this correct? how long does it take ? i believe there are alot of stops on the way

How do we buy tickets if we wsih to go Denia?

Are there any places on the way to Denia that you can recommend to stop off at..we are more interested in towns rather than beach resorts.

Thanks

Snoxell

Hi johnwba and welcome to the forum,

I use Rome2Rio when I'm visiting places I don't know:

https://www.rome2rio.com/map/Benidorm/Port-Denia

Altea is a lovely place that's en route, I especially like to wander around the old town:

Kind regards,

Kim

The tram to Denia is still under refurbishment I believe. You have to get off at Calpe and get the transfer bus. The schedule doesn't say this for some reason

Hi Kimmy

Thanks for your reply

Altea looks lovely. my wife cant walk too far due to having new knees a few years ago. shes ok on a level but hills are more strenuous. so is the old town close to the tram station? or do you have to walk uphill to get to the old town?

Altea is all uphill except for the beach front

Hi Johnwba,

Then I'm afraid Altea wouldn´t be a good choice for your wife, as the old town is hilly and whilst the promenade is flat, it's little different to many others.

Kind regards,

Kim

You'll be waiting a long time if you think you'll be able to get a tram or train from Benidorm to Denia.

As stated elsewhere, the existing derelict tram line is slowly being refurbished, but currently only goes as far as Calpe. I believe the sticking point is the need for an expensive new bridge at one point between Calpe and Denia. Poco a poco, as we say around here.

hi Kimmy

thanks for update about Altea. i agree not a good choice. we might just take the tram for a ride up the coast and back.
