Me and my husband moved here nearly 3 yrs ago, (before the great plague!)  We love running, walking and swimming and we are still trying to learn spanish.  We are both retired and so far have only met 1 person that is an expat and lives here.  Is there anyone who shares our interests???  We don't want to move but we underestimated the importance of socialising with British people!

Hi Caroline,

We have a holiday home in Alicante city.   We're not British ( Irish) but understand how nice it is to chat with people in English.

We do not live in Spain full time but have met some lovely people in Alicante from USA,  England,  Sweden, France, Vienna and Canada for starters!!

Perhaps try joining a group called Internations.org.   Dinners, coffee mornings etc ..That is how we met most people.

Then someone told us that most English speakers meet at Austins Bar just off Rambla towards Oldtown.

Also I know a few people from Alicante Activities on FB.   I will look into their autumn schedule when we return back there late September.

Yes the pandemic has stunted plans for everyone but keep trying.   Alicante has a lot going for it but like most cities it can be difficult at first to get to know people.

Best wishes and hopefully you will start meeting more people soon.

Regards

Maria

We have a place in the city, and have met quite a few permanent British expats, and have a good social network. You will run into quite a few if you have a drink around Austins in the Barrio. I have met most expats that way, as well as at the gym (Cosmopolitan). Plenty of us are fit and sporty, but also enjoy the occasional drink. Its a good way to meet people initially, and can of course lead to friendship and activities away from bars and restaurants !

All the best,

Simon.
