Hello We are a British couple (retired) just moved to Alicante and love this city.

We arrived just over a week ago and move to a rental apartment soon. We're staying in a hotel right now.

We went to open a bank account and every bank seems to have different rules - one even wanted us to purchase health insurance with them first.

We opened the account with BancoMarch in Alicante as we were happy with the way they dealt with us. They say no bank charges as a pension is going to be paid in every month. We shall see.

Got a cell phone from the Orange Shop who were very helpful and will get WiFi from them once we moved into our rental apartment.

Still got to go to City Hall to register ourselves. Looks like my husband who receives a pension from the UK will have health cover and I will have to get private health cover thanks to the UK Pension age being moved - I would be due to have my pension in April when I turn 60. DKV is a company we have a recommendation for - maybe someone could recommend another company also please ?

Thank you

Sylvia

Hello Sylvia,

I have just joined this forum and read your 2017 post.I hope you are enjoying your life in Spain.

I am hoping to move to Alicante city for my retirement, but not sure where.I don't drive so I would luke to be near the beach and restaurants/shops.I don't want to be in a noisy area,so even a 10 min bus ride to the beach or city would be ok providing pubic transpirt is good there.Maybe Gran Alicant is also an option.

I am heading out to Alicante city for a week at Easter.

Any other advice for banks or health insurance or estate agents would be very welcome.

Thank you in advance,

Ursula
