Hi

We are planning in retiring in Alicante and will be looking for a house in the next month. We are trying to book an appointment on line with the Police so they can grant us our NIE. I am able to fill out the application up to Step 7. As soon as I fill that out, I get a message saying there are no available times right now and they will get back to me as soon as they do. Unfortunately, I don’t ever get to Step 8 to leave my email address.

Any suggestions?

We leave for Alicante on December 3, arriving on the 4th. We are travelling from Canada.

If you decide to buy a home here, your lawyer will sort out your NIE as part of the purchase process. You don't need to do anything yet.

Assuming you have non-EU passports, are you aware of the Non-Lucrative Visa ?

We do know about the lucrative visa. We were told by the Spanish Consulate that we have to take it to the police to get it “confirmed “. Thus our dilemma.

No. I thought we read somewhere that you have to book in the city you are staying in?  Or did we read that wrong?

Thanks.

When you apply for the NLV if you haven’t already got an NIE number, then I believe they automatically assign you a number.

When we purchased our property over 4 years ago there were no NIE appointments anywhere, rather than delay the house purchase our solicitor went to Almeria to obtain our NIE numbers.

This is what we thought but didn’t happen. We will try booking in Elche like someone suggested.

Thanks.

We bought a property in Alicante city in 2017.

Our appointment for NIE was in Alcoy.

The real estate or solicitor will help with that.

Please rent and consider a lot of factors before you purchase any property.

Ask here on the forum any further questions.

Best of luck in your move

Kind regards

Maria
