If you are a British citizen and not already registered to vote and then please use the following link to register to vote:

https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

You will see the following information for those that live abroad:

If you live abroad

You can use this service to apply to register to vote (or to renew or update your registration) if you:

  • are a British citizen
  • left the UK within the last 15 years
  • were previously registered at an address in England, Scotland or Wales (or, in some cases, you left the UK before your 18th birthday)

You’ll need your passport details if you’re a British citizen living abroad, and want to vote in England, Scotland or Wales.

Voting if you’re registered as an overseas voter

You can vote in UK Parliament and European Parliament elections. You may be able to vote in referendums. Each referendum has different rules on who can vote in it.

You can choose to vote either by post or by proxy. You’ll be asked to make this choice when you register.

The local authority where you’re registered as an overseas voter will send you a postal or proxy vote application form by email or post.

If you’re registered in Northern Ireland you cannot vote by post.

  • The deadline for receiving new proxy vote applications (not by post) will be 5pm on Wednesday 4 December.

If you are a British Citizen living in or visiting the EU it's more important than ever to vote in the upcoming UK election to make sure your voice is heard, so please register to vote if you are not already registered!

Just one thing to add......Many people who had a postal vote were unable to vote as voting slips didn't arrive in time. If you really want your vote to count, I have found that using a Proxy has worked out brilliantly.

Hi Alex, the above says:

You can use this service to apply to register to vote (or to renew or update your registration) if you:

  • are a British citizen
  • left the UK within the last 15 years
Does that mean that if you are a British Citizen but left the UK over 15 years ago we are not able to vote?   Could you please clarify this for me if you are able to, thanks,

It means that anyone living abroad is eligible to vote if you are a British citizen AND you left the UK within the last 15 years

Hi,

Yes it says - left the UK within the last 15 years

BUT

does that mean that if you left 19 years ago you are not allowed to vote, sorry to be predantic but we left more than 15 years ago and need to know.   We were excluded from voting in the Brexit vote as we had left the UK more than 15 years ago.

Yes unfortunately it looks like if you left the UK more than 15 years ago to are not eligible to vote. I recommend going through the process though and it will tell you 100%
